6.1.9 crashes randomly
Ever since I upgrade to 6.1.9 (I have all of them since 3.x), my SageTV Server will just... go away. I'll look at the computer, notice that some of my programs weren't recorded and Sage won't be running any more. Tonight it recorded the first 10 minutes of American Idol and I assume quit after that. There was a file with just 10 minutes of it.
I don't run it as a service. The PC has Windows XP Pro SP2. Works great for Theatertek and everything else on my HTPC. Only Sage 6.1.9 started doing this. I didn't have 6.1.8 long enough to know if that was an issue either. How should I start troubleshooting this? Robert |

Debug logging would be a good place to start.

What's keeping you from running Sage as a service?

What capture devices?
Could it be that one of your capture cards is nto working well and triggering crashes when used? Do you have any recent hs_err_pid_xxx.log files in the Sage directory? Running as a service with service recovery enabled would be a workaround (service recovery restarts services when they crash).

I've got logging on so I'll see what happens.
Nielm, I also loaded your web plugin at the same time, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I guess we'll see when it happens again. That's usually every other day or so. Robert Edit: Neilm, I didn't read your second question. I have a pair of Hauppauge PVR-250 cards and a HDHomeRun attached to my network. Yes, I do have several hs_err_pid log files in my directory. A few from last year, but one every other day for the last week or so. Most start with something like this: Quote:

Here is the full crash log from the last hs_err java log. Any ideas?

But apparently one of the Beta versions:
You might try updating to 1.6.0_01 to see if that makes a difference.

I've been running Sage as a service and getting the same error. I have a PVR 250, 150 and an HDHomeRun. I suspected that the HDHR software was screwing up Sage. They put out new software/drivers for it yesterday. I'm watching to see if it made a difference.

I too am running as a service and have been having this happen since I've upgraded to 6.1.9 - no problems at all before that!
I have been digging aroung, and it seems to only happen (so far) if I use the new YouTube interface. It doesn't happen immediately, either, only under the conditions where I use YouTube for a while, then put my MVP to sleep using the remote. When I try to "power back up", it just hangs until I stop and restart the service. Also, it doesn't appear to kick my processor or memory usage up at all when it hangs. |

I upgraded to the latest Java 6.0 patch and latest HDHomerun software. So far so good.

I remember reading on the Silikondust website, in the Sage area, that for any Sage 6.1 release the integrated software package is highly recommended. I made it thru all the 6.1 betas without it, though.

Flavius,
Right now I run Sage full screen in interactive mode, via the Windows STARTUP group. I plan on building a new Sage server for the basement which will not be used for viewing, so I'll install it in service mode. I assume Windows Services start before items in the startup group, especially if you don't login. How do you start the HDHomeRun software in that scenario? Make it a service? Will that work? Robert |

The HDHomeRun software puts itself in the startup group for all users, so just have some admin user log in automatically.
