Problems viewing recorded files outside SageTV
I am using a Nvidia Dual Tuner and a HDHomeRun to record shows. I can record and play back in Sage without issue, but if I try to play on any other player if fails saying it can't find the codec, except if I use VLC to view it. Then it works fine, but I was curious if anyone could point me to why this is occurring?
I had one other question as well. Does anyone have recommendations for editing video files? I don't want to edit recorded TV shows very often, but every once in awhile I want to edit out the commercials. Any advice? Thanks. -Nebruin |

Try VideoReDo from videoredo.com - not free but the best MPG editor I have tried. You can test it for free for a few weeks, see if you agree...

If you want to remain in the SageTV UI, give Bob Phoenix's VideoEditor plugin a look. It's pretty feature-packed. And it depends on what you want the final recording to be. If you will be playing back exclusively in SageTV, the ComSkip files it creates will let you playback commercial-free without affecting the original file. Otherwise, you can process the file (through VideoRedo, again through the SageTV UI) to create a new "cut" file. No mouse or keyboard required for this plugin--all controllable fom the UI and remote.

Which Mpeg2 decoder did you install on your computer? The Nvidia dualtv records in mpeg2 format, and I have no problem watching the recorded shows in other media players like WMP 11. And HDTV is already encoded as mpeg2. Have you tried watching the files in other computers?

The problem is that I'm an idiot. I had forgotten to install an MPEG2 decoder on my other computer thus it couldn't decode the video files.
