SageTVClient: Archived Recordings Path Problems
Sage 6.1. Client and server are separate computers.
Some of my archived recordings show a "local" file path (i.e. F:\video direcory\show.mpg) and 0.0MB file size in the recording details. As a result, the SageTV Client is unable to associate the ComSkip EDLs with the video though it can play the video files. Other archived files display the UNC paths (\\Server\video directory\show.mpg) and correct file size, and they are properly associated with their ComSkip EDLs. I've set my SageTV Client properties and video recording directory to use UNC paths, and ComSkip behavior works correctly with the exception of the aforementioned archived recordings. I figure I'm either missing a path entry somewhere in the client properties, or this path data is "hardcoded" in wiz.bin. Or I'm overlooking something else entirely. Any tips how to correct this? If it's a matter of the wiz.bin file, I'm kinda screwed, right? There's no way to edit this file? Thanks, --Steve

The paths to existing recordings are not updated when you simply change the path SageTV uses as its recording dir, because the old files are still found in teir old locations. To update the paths for old recordings, you could move them to a different recording dir while SageTV is not running, or rename the recording dir & update the UNC path in the properties file accordingly. When the recording is not seen in its old location, its path will be updated to that of the recording dir where it is found.

Thanks Andy,
So if I understand correctly, I could do the following: 1) Backup wiz.bin 2) Stop the Sage service 3) Rename the video directory from video to sage_recordings 4) Update my server and client properties files to replace \\Media\video with \\Media\sage_recordings 5) Restart the Sage service And wiz.bin will automatically update itself? Thanks again, --Steve

That should work. Also, you should only have to edit sage.properties and I would make a copy of that, in addition to wiz.bin, before doing anything.

Thanks!
I've got to say: I spent a lot of time researching PVRs before choosing SageTV and I couldn't be happier with my decision. This forum -- and all of the great folks who contribute to Sage -- just reinforce my feelings about it. --Steve

Well, I must be thick as a whale omelet. I tried the above, but it didn't make any difference: files recorded pre-UNC still have the old path name.
Am I correct in assuming this is metadata that lives in wiz.bin? --Steve

Look at the bottom of the detailed info screens for those recordings to find the path where SageTV believes the files are located. Are the files still in those places? Were they mapped drive letters? If so, the service can't check those locations.

Hi Andy,
Yes, the paths for the files in question appear as mapped drives (F:\show.mpg) in the recording details, and the files are still there. My MVP sees the files as having been comskipped -- but if I understand things correctly, it's because as far as the MVP is concerned, these are "local" files. I can always map the network drive on the client as a workaround -- again, the issue is the client not making the comskip association on the files with mapped drive paths. I'd just prefer to repair the metadata get everything UNCd. Thanks, --Steve

Like I said above, services can't access mapped drive letters. You'll have to run in non-service mode in order for SageTV to be able to check the mapped path location for the recording to see that it isn't there (just map the letter to some empty dir) & recognize it in its new UNC-path location. After that, you can return to using service mode.

Man, I'm batting 1000%. When I originally searched the forum, I didn't even think to just type in UNC.
I just found a detailed thread that covers my situation exactly. Sorry for wasting your time with an already-answered question. --Steve
