EPG lag?
A general question for everyone... do you get a 1/2 to 2/3 second delay when using the menus (system menus or EPG)?
I have an EPIA M10000 w/ a PVR-250, 256MB RAM, Win2K SP4. When watching live TV, the cpu load wanders between 30 and 45%. That's completely acceptable. When I am browsing the EPG, and scrolling quickly, it will climb to around 95%, but never maxes out. The problem is that when I hit an arrow button on the Hauppauge remote, there is a nasty time lag before the system responds and moves the cursor to another channel. It makes browsing the EPG a bit painful. Same deal in the main system menus. Hit a key, a delay, then the menu responds. (In fact, a third place where there is a delay is when changing channels. Select my channel, and Sage seems to pause about 1 second before actually sending the IR codes to the Actisys. I know this since my reciever has a blinken-light to indicate it has recieved an IR code properly) Just wondering if this is common, or if something is wonky with my setup. I've tried the various settings for VRM, etc, but with no effect. thanks... |

I also have an M10000, and I have also noticed that Sage can be a bit slow to respond to my remote, but only sometimes and not *that* slow (I have an ATI Remote wonder, and I think it is the remote control software's problem)
Have you disabled 'EPG animation' in Detailed Setup/Multimedia --the smooth EPG scrolling can be very CPU intensive... Have you got the latest Java JRE (1.4.2-01) (use this page to get version number) -- maybe older versions are less performant... |

I have this same pause, and its extremely annoying.
The client that pauses is a intel 865 chipset and p4 3.0ghz. So much for just an EPIA issue ![]() I.

With the number of pieces of software things have to be passed thru, there will be some delay. I can't say than either of my systems are slow enough in responding to say it is annoying though.
As for the delays in channel changes, because of the way MPEG works, along with SageTV having to close one file and start another, then wait until there is enough usable data there to display... well, there will always be some delay there. I don't have a Tivo to compare to, but a friend has often complained about how slow his has been some times. So, I don't think we're really having any worse delay problems than Tivo users. I'm just guessing, but I suspect Jeff is working on speeding a few things up for a future upgrade release. RUMOR: In an e-mail from support they mentioned a possible v2.1 release coming out shortly. If that is true it would be a "point" release, and as such, should have a very large number of improvements. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it though because there was no definite time frame indicated. Could be weeks. Could be months. Last edited by mls; 07-14-2004 at 11:33 PM. |

After complaining of the issue, I decided to look into it
![]() Most of your guys lag happens when leaving Live TV, to the menu right? If so, try another decoder. I.
