How big is yours?

I've just started converting my CD collection to .flac files so that I can play them in Sage. So far I have about 100 CDs ripped and imported into Sage. Before I rip the rest of the collection (about 500 CDs more) I want to make sure Sage can handle that many songs.

Am I asking for trouble or will Sage be able to deal with 600 CDs (which I estimate to be 4,000 songs)? I prefer .flac to .mp3 because of the better quality, is flac a good choice or is one of the other lossless formats better?

I've noticed sometimes Sage gets a little flaky when importing the tags. Twice Sage picked up some of the tags incorrectly and I had to remove the files and re-import them to correct the problem. For example, one of the album titles was picked up as some strange string like "qlist_id=....". I removed the album from the import directory, waited a while, and then moved it back (without making any changes) and it appeared correctly.

Sage seems to handle it just fine, although I do have a few albums here and there with improper tags, that need to be fixed...

Dunno CD count ... I only have about 20gb (~4400 songs) of mp3s and it works just fine. I do need to finish fixing the dorked-up album art (it's 'on the list')

My test system has about 7500 songs in 300 albums (same collection imported twice to get a higher song count for testing) and I know others have much larger collections... not sure if they match the 22,172 files mentioned above.

The database handles the file count just fine so far. About the only thing I'm aware of at the moment is that for better client performance, you might want to check the size of the album art, since larger images take longer to transfer over the network, which can cause some delays. There are still a couple things that will be done in the future to delay album art from being displayed so you can scroll through the music collection w/o waiting for art to load for each screen.

To be sure, there is some duplication in there, maybe 5% or so. Bad thing is, that's not my entire collection, I have between 15-20g more on my laptop from my Microsoft Marketplace account for my Zune. Haven't had time to convert them over to use on my Sage system yet, so they weren't counted.

I know a guy who's collection probably woudln't fit on my server's approx. 2tb of storage, although I'd say most of his music was from the old napster/P2P days. About 90% of mine are from my online music accounts, with the other 10% being from actual CD's I or someone in my family own.

I use about 2500 songs spread over 190 albums all high quality AAC with perfect tags using external folder art at 200x200.

Works great.

Trans coding the AAC to an extender hardly makes a blip on my 3.02 celeron.

I would just make sure the tags are complete & correct, and that the album art is taken care of right away, then like you said, nothing to worry about. I still need to work on some of my album art as well, some of it is not quite up to what I prefer.

tmiranda or heffe probably won't have this problem but for larger music libraries, you may have to set this registry value:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\SageTV\JVMMaxHeapSizeMB
to a value higher than 192 (which is the default).

Wonder if that would help my system at all? The server machine has plenty of ram, along with my clients, so might bump it up to maybe 256m or more and see what happens...

Couldn't hurt. I was getting the "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" errors during library scan. SageTV wouldn't startup as a result The reg-hack fixed it. *shrug*
