Changing Song Tags
I've just begun to rip some of my audio CDs so I can listen to them through Sage. One thing I noticed is that if I change any of the tags Sage does not "see" the changes unless I remove the files from the Music import directory and then re-add them later.
I would think the "Refresh Imported Media" function would pick up on changed tags but it does not seem to do so. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Tom

No, you aren't doing anything wrong -- the tags are all read the first time the files are imported. After that, I believe it just does a quick scan for existing files to see that they are there. New files are fully scanned.
One thing to do for rescanning is to set the music dir to also import videos, then remove its music import tag. After that rescan/removal of the music, tag it as a music import dir & rescan again. This at least saves having to remove & re-add the dir path. - Andy

OK, Thanks Andy. That's a little clunky but it gets the job done.
I also noticed that Sage does not seem to recognize the "Date" tag. When I sort by Date it all comes up as "Unknown" even though there is a date in there (in to form yyyy). Ideas?

I see it listed as Year in the apps I've tried and SageTV reads that tag and lists the songs under the "Years" view in the music browser. - Andy

Yes, I meant year. I set the value to 2005 (for example), but no items appear in the view.

This is after doing an import dir removal & rescan, wait until the song doesn't show up in the music lib, then add it & rescan again?
Are these MP3 ID3 tags, or some other file format? - Andy

BTW: I found out that when doing a rescan, the tags stored inside the media file should be re-read if the timestamp on that media file has changed since its tags were last read. Edit: I see an issue when trying this, so I'll have to get back about it again later on.

For now, you'll still need to remove & re-add the import dir for changed tags. - Andy

Thanks Andy. I'm using flac files, not mp3. Hopefully the fix will work for them too!
