Unhappy Unreadable Text In Menu After Trial Install

I installed the trial version on my Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop so I could just give it a run and see how I liked the interface.

The install seemed to go fine, but afterwards I got this:

Obviously it's unusable, so that's as far as I got. Anyone have any idea how to fix it?

I will be updating my JVM shortly (currently 1.4) to see if that does it. Also, I obviously have no tv tuner card or anything installed, but I thought that wouldn't matter since I could still check out the medial library functionality.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to trying an updated version of Java, check to see if you have the latest version of DirectX and/or video card drivers.

Normally, you could turn 3D on or off in the UI, but since you can't read anything there... you could try running with 3D Acceleration off in SageTV by setting this property in sage.properties using a simple text editor like Notepad (w/Word Wrap disabled):
ui/accelerated_rendering=false

If you are using service mode or a client, edit that line sageclient.properties.

Thanks, that did the trick, even without an updated jdk!

Just posting for the benefit of future users with the same problem.

What fixed it for me was updating Sun Java to the latest version, I made no other changes.
