General experience with ATI AIW 8500DV
Is anyone out there using SageTV with ATI AIW 8500DV? If so what's the experience like?

SageTV only supports hardware encoding cards. You can see the list of supported cards on their website.

Siggib,
Were you asking if you could use the AIW8500DV for the encoding process or as the video card in your system? If you were asking about encoding, mlbdude is, as usual, correct. However if you were asking how the AIW cards work with SageTV as the only the video card, then yes I use a 8500DV and the output is excellent and behaves very with the SageTV and hauppauge encoders.

New and willing to learn
I have a ATI AIW 8500DV and was wondering if I can use this card with SageTV. I don't understand in the "system requirements" page if it can be used or not. Please help because Gemstar Guideplus is not very good.

No you can not use the 8500 as an encoder card. It can only be used as a video out card. And it is not very good at that either. I used to have one and I dump it for an ATI 9600X card. Much better picture quality. And at the time I needed to use VMR to get transparent menus and the 8500 did not support this. You are correct about the quide plus being horrible. That is one reason I made the change to SageTV. Stability being my prime reason.
