Remote programing of recordings
I was wondering if SageTV allowed for remote programing of shows. One of your competitors, SnapSteam, offers a web site where you setup your PC to record a show. This web site is even WAP compatible. Does SageTV allow for something like that?
Reading through the site I understand the SageTV client will allow you to watch TV on a PC on your network that doesn't have a capture card in it. Can you use this client to record shows and/or program recording? Does this client work through a firewall? What ports need to be open? |

The Client has all the functionality of the server. I use Remote Desktop to come into my non HTPC PC to access the client all the time. It does use a specific port that you can allow through your firewall, and I have run the client from work but it is slow to connect. It is really a LAN based tool since it is designed to give you the full experience (full quality video streaming and all).
SageTV 2.0 will have a "thin" client that will allow you to access Client functionality over the web. Last edited by mlbdude; 11-26-2003 at 02:20 PM. |
