PVR 500 gone

My wife told me today that our TV had gone out. When I checked, I first thought it might be a problem with our internet because there was no guide data. After scratching my head for a while and seeing that all my season pass data and pre-recorded shows were all still there, I decided to go back through the setup. I quickly realized there was no tuner found in SageTV. I checked device manager and sure enough, no tuners show up. How could this have happened? This is an expensive PVR 500. Surely there is a way to get the PC to recognize it again?

Dumb question time: Have you tried rebooting? Power-cycling the PC? Opening the case and reseating the card? Moving it to another PCI slot? Those are all things I'd do before concluding that the card was dead.

What he ^ said. Every once in a while this will happen to me. Often a reboot will fix it, otherwise a reseating of the card always will.

both are correct

I removed the card, rebooted, replaced the card, rebooted, and all was well. I took the time to update the Hauppauge drivers as well. Thanks for the help. I had a feeling I could fix it easily but my time is very limited lately. I was sure sweating this one. Thanks for the help.

I don't know if you've kept up with the info regarding the newer Hauppauge drivers for the PVR-500, but they now support Closed captioning in Sage now

As long as the installed driver is 24201 or newer, you can get CC in Sage with just a edit of your .properties files and using a DVD video decoder.

So to get CC on 500, you used latest drive from haauppauge? When I go to support and click on 500, I see drivers from june 26, 2006. But, under the 150 I see an update in jan 2007, I'm guessing this is the driver you need?

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/suppo...rt_pvr150.html

Finally, you edit the sage.properties file; however, I run Sage service and in the manual it says that service uses sage.properties and ui uses sageclient.properties. I could only see cc_option_enabled in sageclient.properties.

So, I believe the steps are:

update drivers to jan, 2007
set cc_option_enabled to true only in sageclient.properties?

-------------------------------

I got it working, The min you need is to update the drivers, which does not require running setup (setup installs wintv stuff, I hate having extra programs on my computer), just point to the directory where you unzipped the file after running HWclear file in zip file you download. Then, only have to change cc_option_enabled=true in sageclient.properties. Also, I'm using nvidia decoder, I'm not sure if it will work with default sage decoder...

Glad to hear you got it working. Yup, you figured it out, just get the 150/500 from the 150 page. Its confusing, but Hauppauge has a link on the 500 page to go to the 150 page for a newer driver.

Also, nice to hear that you only had to do the cc_options in sageclient.properties. When I did the initial research into getting CC to work with the new beta drivers that Hauppauge had released, I added it to both .properties files since I didn't know exactly what was needed.

Nope, it won't work with the Sage Mpeg Decoder. It isn't a DVD decoder, and CC is a DVD "feature". Sage will still record the CC, you just can't display it when using the Sage decoder.
