Extra button command funtionality

I was a long time tivo user. However, I sold the tivos I had to build a dedicated sage hd system, and I really like it. There are however, some remote control commands that I would really like, and I can't seem to find them in the menus or in a STVi. I would like a clear screen button that when pressed would do one of two things. If video is playing, it would clear all menus, etc (and show only the video); when no video is playing, it would go to the main menu. Also, I would like that if I pressed the guide button while the guide is displayed, that the guide would then disappear. Finally, it would also be nice to be able to clear the playback bar with the play button. I get annoyed at having to go through other menus to return to a playing video. I realize that SageMC has two of these features, but for some reason SageMC won't allow my computer to sleep (but that is another issue). Sorry this is such a long post. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Have you experimented with the BACK command?

Menu button to go to the Menu and Back button to go to the previous screen or TV.

GUIDE command for the Guide and again BACK button to go back.

Yea - that is one irritation too. I use the INFO button to display details about the show I'm watching and it shows the playback bar. I then have it configured in setup to show for 6 seconds and it then goes off. If I hit SELECT (the SELECT command or it could be ENTER) then it displays the bar or if the bar is displayed it shows Options and I just hit Select again because Cancel is highlighted so it just goes back to the show and the bar is then turned off.

The back button does exit the guide, and I'm a bit embarrassed that I over looked it. However, it doesn't work as a clear screen, it just goes back to the main menu. I guess what I ultimately want is for the buttons to work like tivo's. The controller and interface of tivo was incredibly well implemented and intuitive, IMHO. In fact I still use a tivo remote with Sage, and it would be nice to have the controls that I'm used to. If I had the time, I would attempt to learn Studio. Do you have any other ideas? I could maybe try to solve my no sleep issue with SageMC, but I would prefer use the main stv. Thanks again.

All the possible commands are listed at the ned of chapter 5 of the PDF manual in your SageTV directory.

You can use the "TV" command to toggle between the playback screen & the last menu viewed.

You may also be interested in my multi-function stop plugin.

When no video is playing, STOP == go to main menu
When video is playing, STOP pops up a menu with shortcuts so that:

STOP+REW == restart playback from beginning
STOP+FF == main menu
STOP+PLAY = clear screen/go to video screen
STOP+STOP = stop playback

Obviously, STOP+STOP+STOP=stop playback, go to main menu

The TV button works quite well as the clear screen button, thanks. I'll also check out the multiple stop plugin, it sounds very useful. I'm actually going to start using SageMC because my wife likes it better. Hopefully I can figure out what is keeping my computer from sleeping. I'm trying to determine if it is a process within or outside of Sage. Anyway, thank you both for your help, I love this forum!
