> 15. Added core detection of H.264 streams inside MPEG2 PS/TS containers

So is this what folks have been waiting for?

Curious what this actually added... my H.264 .ts files don't play any better...

First thing I did after install was tune to HGTV as a test. No luck.

I hope we can get this working by fall (NFL-HD)!

Guys, you must go to Sage.properties or SageClient.properties and change the line "always_use_dshow_player=" to "true". Finally! Solved all of my H.264 playback problems

Is that working for you?

I get a big

Code:
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0X80004005): There was a
problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback
I have the latest CoreAVC installed with Haali splitter and made the edits above to my SageClient.properties file.

Am I missing something?

Cheers,
Are you running SageTV Service Mode? Because if you are not, then you have to edit Sage.properties instead. Also, when you edit either configuration files, make sure the SageTV UI is not running.

I'm downloading a TS container H.264 video sample right now, will report back in a few.

Yes, I am running it in Service mode and testing it on my client. So I edited the client file.

Let me know how you do.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Hmmm interesting results indeed. The TS file plays fine in WMP, Haali Splitter is called, as well as my PowerDVD H.264 decoder. However, when playing in SageTV, SageMpeg Demux is used instead of Haali, and as a result my PowerDVD MPEG2 decoder is called. So while I get the audio stream, I get no video (wrong decoder). Looks like they still haven't fixed everything I can say that Quicktime container H.264 files (.MOV) play fine now though (used to not work properly).

Yes, just to make sure we're all on the same page, if I increase the merit of the Cyberlink H.264 encoder (so my system no longer uses CoreAVC) I get the same results... audio... just no video.

Cheers,

When is Haali Splitter needed? Which one are you using?

I would like to find a way to play back my AVC encoded home videos from my camcorder, but have yet to figure out a way. Does the CoreAVC codec give SageTV that option?

The files being generated are .m2ts files.

Haali is the best (maybe be only?) splitter to playback H.264 video in a .ts container. It's also a great .mkv splitter should you have any .mkv's...

In regards to .m2ts... do you know what kind of AVC it is? It's probably H.264 so I would lean towards yes, it would.

As you can see from this thread though... just because you might be able to play it in Windows Media Player... doesn't mean Sage will too

Cheers,
It looks like TS H.264 videos are the last bastion of evil I've successfully tested under SageTV the playback of H.264 videos contained in MP4, MKV, and now MOV containers, they all work fine now, except for TS containers.

Haali Splitter is used to separate video and audio streams from a container file. I think it supports MP4, MKV, OGG, AVI, MPEG TS, but not MOV.

I think you will find this thread on Doom9 useful:

Thanks guys. I found that thread on Doom9 last week, and have read through most of it, but it seems like it's still kind of unknown.

I've seen them referred to as x.264. Not sure what that means...

So it would appear that I would need to install Haali Splitter, right? Where should I get it? It appears to be all over the place, different version, like Haali Media Splitter, etc.

x264 is a free encoder software library for H.264 videos.

You can get Haali Splitter at their website:
http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/

Note that Haali only separates the video/audio streams, to decode the video you will still need a H.264 decoder installed, such as CoreAVC.

Thank you for your help.

I just updated from 6.0.19 to the latest version, and now the files play, only there is no video, but the audio works. Before yesterday, the audio did not work at all, and the video was very strange. I could see parts of the scene, but it was unwatchable.

Seeing that CoreAVC is much cheaper than buying PowerDVD 7, I think I'll go with that route.

Which version of CoreAVC would you recommend, Standard or Professional?

Edit, Better yet, how do you buy it?! Looks like their store has been down for several days...
