New DST Rules

RE: the new DST Rules (Daylight Savings Time )
If you are using XP and SP1, will syncing your clock with the Sage Tv server change your time for you? I don't intend to upgrade to SP2, so I can't get the "Windows Time Zone Editor" patch.
Or is there another way around this problem for 3 weeks this spring and 1 week this fall besides manually setting your time zone twice a year?

I believe all clock synching (whether by Sage or by Windows' W32Time service) is done in UTC. It's up to your machine (not the remote time server) to translate that into your local time for display purposes. If your OS of choice doesn't know about the new rules, then it's going to keep on using the old rules, regardless of where you get your time sync from.

If you have access to the Windows resource tool kit for XP, there is a file in there called tzedit.exe that gives you a GUI to modify the registry settings to the new dates. I had to do it on a 2000 server, and it worked pretty easy.

Oh, just found this link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/914387 , it has the tzedit.exe utility and the manual regedits if you want to do it that way.

Once you do that, make sure that your Java version is updated to a new DST compliant version as well.

intelliadmin free DST fix tool

See thread http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23509

FYI, there is a free utility that patches most windows versions.
Not an endorsement, just a FYI. But it sure beats doing the manual reg hack or using the timezone editor tool.
