USB-UIRT Issues
Ok, so I finally figured out on my own that while setting up your input source for USB-UIRT control I can't be in service mode. But what I would like to know is why? That's just annoying having to switch between the two just so I can step through the USB-UIRT learning.
My other problem is that the USB-UIRT doesn't seem to receive commands correctly much of the time. I've got my Harmony setup for the Hauppauge 45 button remote so I stepped through setting up the USB-UIRT commands for that remote. This seems more like a USB-UIRT problem than a SageTV problem. The USB-UIRT doesn't seem to consistently recognize the IR commands. Even with the real Hauppauge remote. I actually stepped through the SageTV learning with the Hauppauge remote because the Harmony remote was giving me practically random command numbers. Anyone else had this problem with their USB-UIRT? I'd like to get rid of the Hauppauge IR receiver that I am currently using and just use the USB-UIRT for both transmitting and receiving but as it stands I have to use both. Any help would be great. Thank you. |

The Hauppauge remotes use a toggle code that sends alternating IR codes when time you press the same button repeatedly. If this is your issue, then when using the USB-UIRT, you will need to learn each button twice in a row, w/o pressing any other remote buttons in between the presses of that button.

Ok, it's half solved. It looks like the commands are working now but whether I use the actual Hauppauge remote or the Harmony remote it repeats each button press twice.
It kind of annoys me that I can't use the USB-UIRT with service mode. Any reason for this? I'm am loving the video from my digital cable box though. It's hooked up to my PVR 150 through s-video. Much nicer looking video than through it's RF input. I've noticed the tuner on my 150 is of more poor quality than on the other tuner, a PVR 250. The only thing that bugs me is that when the channel switches the cable box shows the program information at the bottom for a few seconds. I think I can live with that though. I was thinking of getting another tuner from Cox but then realized that the way the USB-UIRT works I can't control each tuner separately and it would end up changing both cable boxes to the same channel. So much for that idea as nice as it was. |

You actually can control much more than one box with the USB-UIRT. See this thread. I just bought the USB-UIRT for that purpose.
In setting up my Hauppage 45 button remote with the USB-UIRT, I have found the same issue with Sage being in service mode and with learning 2 sets of remote codes. What I am confused about though is the USB-UIRT doesn't seem to work at all in service mode. From what I read, I thought it only had to be in service mode while learning. Can anyone confirm this? |

What I've experienced is that the SageTV service has control of the USB-UIRT for controlling the cable box, satillite box, etc. The regular SageTV program can then not use the USB-UIRT also for receiving IR commands. I don't know if there is a way to allow the driver to to be shared or if that's just impossible. I would rather run the service since I'm about to upgrade my HTPC to dual core but it won't kill me not to.
My biggest problem, though, are the double commands. I'll probably just set my Harmony to use a different type of remote instead of the Hauppauge. Maybe that will solve the double command issues. |

Whenever I try to do that SageTV.exe in the Task Manager starts using 100% CPU. The only way to get it to work right was to turn off service mode. |

Try using Service mode app with the same USERID and password as you use for GUI mode. If you don't have a password to logon with for the GUI then create one and use TWEAKUI to autologon that user so you don't have to see the logon screen. I had the same problem until I did this.
