Slow menus with video running in window or in background

Hi,

I've got a problem with my SageClient setup. It's feeding a 1080p screen (at full-pixel resolution).

Normally, the Sage menus work fine, but if I've got a show running in the "video window" or the "background video" option set, then moving around the menus and programme guide becomes like treacle. It can take 20 or more seconds for each remote-control button press to be actioned.

If I stop the video, this slowness goes away, all the menus run quite snappily.

While the slowness occurs, the CPU usage by sage shoots up to 100%.

My hardware is fairly decent for the client:

Nvidia 6800 PCI-E graphics card
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU
1GB memory

I'm also using the Nvidia Purevideo decode and Java 6.0 (and Sage 6.019).

Incidentally, one thing that isn't slow is the pop-up menu or programme information windows which appear if you click on the Select button while viewing a show.

I guess this slowness might be a problem of the high-resolution of the screen, and Sageclient having too much to do with showing the video and the menus at the same time at 1080p, but I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this and/or found a solution?

Cheers,
Ben

I am having the same problem as well. Doesnt seem as bad as your case but I can tell mine are sluggish when playing video. I seemed to notice it when I swapped my 6800 Ultra for a 6200. So it may have something to do with the speed of video cards.

When this happens, Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if SageTranscoder.exe is chugging along. If so, there are some properties entries that can modify it's behavior. I've also re-named it and ran Sage without it...Google Video wouldn't work, but everything else seemed to. Turning off thumbnail generation can help as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Nope...no sign of sagetranscoder running - but this is on a client PC, so I wouldn't expect that I guess.

Hm...looks like my problem might be specific to my setup, so I should probably report it to Sage as a bug.
