Trouble re registering after rebuild

I had to completely rebuild my Sage Server afte a nasty Virus me. Now I can not figure out how to get it re-egisterd. I originaly purchase v5 but got a v4 key from PcAlchemy of which they corrected with a new one about a month ago. The probem is after doing a clean install I tried entering my original key during the new install and it would not take it so I entered the replacement key and it loaded but is still in trial mode and keeps giv ing me a nag screen telling me that I will need to enter a new key after the trial runs out. I have treid using the register command in th shortcut but it just keeps telling me that I have used an upgrade key and need to put in my original. Probelm is it wont accept my old key.
What do I do now. I could put in a trouble ticket but I figure I would ask here first.

When installing v6 fresh & using an older key + the v6 upgrade key, you will need to enter both keys. When it asks for a key the first time, enter the original full product key (pre-v6 key). The next time, enter the v6 upgrade key.

If it doesn't ask for the upgrade license right after the pre-v6 license was entered, it should do so the next time SageTV is started.

Make sure the first key being entered is for SageTV, not SageTV Client.

Opus,
I am not sure whats going on but it allowed me to install but keeps telling me via a nag screen everytime I start Sage that I have entered an older version key and will need to enter a new one after the trial is over. I have already tried several times to do it through the register command in the shortcut but it wont take either key now.
is there some other way to do it I would hate to see my trial mode end and not be able to add it then.

I did open a trouble ticket but I was hoping it would be an easy fix.

Also the Nag screen at Sage Boot up Says.

" UPGRADE NOTICE
You currently have a pre-V5 Sage Key installed-You need to purchase an upgrade key to usethis version beyond this trial period "

I would hate to have to install an older verson first and then go through the upgrades to get it to work.
Thanks for your help, Dave

It sounds like it *has* taken your V4 key when you first entered it, and is now expecting a V6 upgrade key, but it does not recognise your V5 key as an upgrade key.

Run:
"C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\SageTV.exe" REGISTER
and enter your new V5 key there. (note that this is NOT the same as the Register command in the Start Menu Shortcut: that is for media extender licences).

Thats exactly what I have done and it wont except the v5 key and it tells me that its an upgrade key and I need to first install my original key. When i try the original key it just wont work at all. Its like its confused when I boot up it sees the original key and is telling me to purchase an upgrade key and when I try to register it doesnt seem to see or recognize the original key is already installed.

Any way to tell what key Sage is using.

I have been going back and forth with support and they said they where able to register with my keys inhouse. The problem appears that during my rebuild I did a clean install of v6.019 using my original sage key that was apparently actualy v4 key that PcAlcamey replaced for me. I was told I needed to install the old key first and then install the replacement. The problem is that for some reason my system took the first but rejects the replacement because it says its an upgrade key and I need a valid v5 key in order for it to accept it. Anyway I would just like to know for sure what key is actual already on the sytem. I asked support if there was a way to unregister all keys or if not just send me a new valid key because I do not want to go through all the trouble of formatting my hard drive again and doing a complete reinstall of windows, This is mostly because I have to call MS everytime I do to get windows XP activated do to to many activations already.

There is no way to report what key has been registered on a system.

Is the replacement key from PCAlchemy a v6 upgrade key, or a v5 key to replace your v4 key?
If it is a v6 upgrade, then SageTV is expecting you to enter the v4 key first, then enter the v6 upgrade key.

If it is a v5 key, then you toss the old v4 key & use only the v5 key, since that works for v6 too.
If the key registration doesn't work, then you'll need to continue with SageTV tech support. If there are problems getting the keys registered properly, they'll need to know so they can fix it -- try to give them the exact steps you took to begin with that caused the state it is in now, if you haven't already described it to them.

Opus4,
I believe I have informed support as best as I know what happened. However aftter messing around with it now for several days I keep second guessing myself.
I am pretty sure my original key from PcAlchemy was a v4key. I dont know for sure what they replaced it with. Based on the Register nag screen it appears that it might actualy be an upgrade key but I dont know how to tell. I seem to be in an endless loop where If I try to register using the original key it wont take it an tells me it appears to be an invalid key or name and when I try registering using the new key it sees it as a valid key but wont accept it because I apparently have key already registered that cant be upgraded and I get this message.
" UPGRADE NOTICE
You currently have a pre-V5 Sage Key installed-You need to purchase an upgrade key to use this version beyond this trial period "

At this point I am so frustrated I just want a new valid v6 full key so I can be done with it. Registration should not be this difficult. There should be some way to unregister an old version and reregister without having to reformat. Even if it had to be done via remote access by support.
I guess I will just have to wait and see what support comes up with next but this internet email based support sucks when eveytime you need help you have to send a message and then wait a day or two or more on weekends for a replay only to start all over if they need more information or you need to ask another question.
Thanks anyways,Dave
