Softqueeze can be on any machine on your LAN.

I suppose that is most of my problem then. I can't get the Softsqueeze to run on any of my machines. I get an application error and Java won't run it. Something about JAR resources in JNLP file are not signed by the same certificate. I'll re-check and make sure I have the right jar files.

EDIT: I launched the JAR file without going thru the SC interface and it popped up a player, so I'll play with that and see how it goes!

EDIT2: Well the Softsqueeze works great, but unfortunately that didn't fix my problem on the Sage. Same thing as before. Do I need to leave the Softsqueeze open on a machine?

No you dont need to keep softsqueeze open; in fact, if you do, you will see the display flickers indicating they are conflicting with one another (only one can be open at a time). If its not doing this, you aren't using the same version of the softsqueeze.jar file (or it's not using the same one anyway)

I dont think it's even possible for slimplayer to do somethign different than sotsqueeze if they are on the same machine and using the same softsqueeze.jar file since slimplayer is just a different way to display what softsqueeze is showing.

C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\HTML\EN\html\softsqueeze\Softsqueeze.jar

and

C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\JARs\SoftSqueeze.jar

Dang, I just can't get it to work. What is the best procedure for just deleting everything and starting a fresh install of this plugin? I checked and re-checked the JAR files and everything I could read but still no luck. Thanks again.

If you have sagetv and squeezecenter on different machines, you have to change the server host address in the softsqueeze configuration. There are two ways to do this:
  1. launch softsqueeze from squeezecenter web interface opened on the machine where sagetv will run - change slimserver property from localhost to the hostname of the server squeezecenter is running on (settings is accessed by clicking on the tiny second icon in the top left corner of the player UI).
  2. use regedit on sevrer running sagetv to change slimserver property value directly: HKCU/Software/JavaSoft/Prefs/org/titmuss/softsqueeze/slimserver
Also make sure your firewall isn't blocking ports 9000, 9090 and 3483.

Thanks a lot for all the help. I can run the Softsqueeze JAR file from the machine running Sage, and it works. They are on two separate boxes and I did the registry fix already. I am just not having luck with it. I even went back through the ZIP files for the STVi and tried deleting and re-unzipping them to try for a fresh install and no luck.

I'll wait until the next build for SageMC and see if that fixes me up.

Thanks again!

Hey quick question - will this stv allow you to start and stop playback on an extender through the slimserver web interface?

in other words - I used to have softsqueeze and slimserver on a client htpc, and I would control playback through the web interface on the laptop. Now I have an extender - can I do the same with that?

I recognize the importance of this. It allows you to start and stop squeezecenter music with playback through extender without turning on the TV.

Currently it's not part of slimplayer v2.0 for standard STV, but while I was developing v2 at one time I had this working this way. I will put this in for v2.1, which will see the light shortly.
Now let's hope the stvi code for SageMC is on it's way...

Wow, I have missed a lot of posts. I have been away for a while.

I will be starting to check it out and see what will have to be done to revamp or replace the current SageMC version. Chris has already let me know he will be happy to help with any questions I have in doing the update.

Don't look for anything this week! I am behind on several projects and have family coming to visit starting tomorrow. But it will get there.

Just wondering if anyone has heard any news on this. Anything new with the Slim Player for SageMC? If progress is being covered on another thread please point me in the correct direction. Thanks

Unhappy

I wonder what happened. I could have sworn his intention was to produce a sageMC version about a month ago. I hope he didn't change his mind!

Well I have had intentions, but just not enough time to get things done. I already posted on the NetFlix thread about the difficulty in being able to devote the time needed. It could be a while before I have the time to devote to it.

If someone has an interest in going for it with the SageMC version I will gladly help them with problems they may run into relevant to the existing SlimPlayer stv. Chris has offered assistance to me for implementation questions, so I'm sure he would be glad to help someone else as well. Otherwise it just may be a while before things slow down enough to devote to this project. I would love to be working on it now, but my workload has gone up and the paycheck...down (temporarily they say).

Thanks Morgan. Call me a pessimist, but I doubt well see another Morgan dropping by anytime soon to complete the SageMC version

Good luck at your job. I do wonder... what kind of job you have that actually makes you more busy during hard economic times. Are you a repo man?

We will be patiently waiting for the day you come back. Please dont forget about us!

Thanks for all of your work!

Would it be difficult to switch between the standard TV and SageMC, just to run the 2.x version of the Slim player? I wouldn't mind doing that.

I have followed the steps on the first page up to step 13, but I do not get the sub menu "Slim Player" added to the "My Music" menu. Any thoughts? I'm going to try to add just a new internal screen as stated in step 14 in the mean time, but I'd like to get that sub menu to work.

EDIT: I've got it working for now with the new internal screen. Couple of things I've noticed. For me when I press OK on the Navigate menu the dialog box that comes up is transparent and so all the words behind it blends in with the words in the box making it unreadable. Also the volume is very low. I had the volume all the way up on the softsqueeze thing when I tried it the first time. I was going to download the Java MP3 plugin linked in step 16 to see if it would help, but the download is not there. Is this it? http://java.sun.com/javase/technolog.../download.html

The current version of this stvi needs a little maintenance to work with SageTV 6.6 and SageMC 6.3.9.

I'm finishing up version 2.1 of slimplayer for SageTV 6.6+, which includes stvi's for both the default STV and SageMC (which is actually this plugin upgraded to work with sagemc 6.3.9 & slimplayer 2.1).
With version 2.1 both default STV users and SageMC users can enjoy
Music from Squeeze Center server on servers and clients including extenders.
