Help! LiveTV records every show as I channel up and down??

When I go to LiveTv and use the channel up and down arrows it records every show to disk when I haven't specified for it to record. How do I stop this from happening. Also, when I am in livetv how can I keyin a channel to go directly to versus continually hitting the up and down arrows? Thanks.

This seems to be a fairly common question, so I'll take my turn with it.

It is recording every show because you aren't really watching "live" TV, you are watching "live recorded" TV... meaning that everything you watch gets recorded to a file & played back as you watch it, which is why there is a short delay before the new channel is displayed when changing channels. That is also why you are able to pause TV while watching it "live". <-- Note: funny, I originally typed 'watching it "lie".' Is that more accurate??

As for changing channels w/o using the up/down arrows, I can simply use the numbers on the keyboard or Hauppauge remote.

Hope that helps...

Since I'm a newbie too, does Sage automatically delete those files that are recorded just by channel surfing? How soon? I'd prefer it delete them within 24 hours at the latest, and not wait for the hard drive to fill up. Is that adjustable?

Realistically, the only thing Sage should be preserving are the shows we recorded on purpose.

SageTV properly maintains however much disk space you tell it to. If you speciy 20 GB then it will begin deleting them when the limit is reached. There is no reason to delete them sooner.

Because SageTV is a PVR it will preserve whatever you watch.

there is a setting under the "settings" screen for sage to delete partial show recordings when you quit sage. The only problem is that sage runs 24/7 as long as windows stays up (it is debateable how long that actually can be )

But as was stated before, these little files will be deleated as disk space runs out.
