Exclamation SageTV, AC3 & XviD

I'm trying to find out how to set up AC3 Filter to work like I want it to. What I have now, is my HTPC connected by SPDIF for all audio. A DVD ripped on the HTPC's hard drive, sends the audio stream to the receiver just fine through SageTV and the 5.1 kicks in - no problems there. What I'm having problems with is my XviD rips of DVDs. I grab only the AC3 5.1 audio from DVDs when I rip them and compress to XviD so I know it's there. The receiver however doesn't pick it up as AC3 and just stays in 2 channel mode.

I'm using AC3 Filter on the HTPC. Is there a magic setting I'm missing or is there something I need that I'm overlooking? Perhaps I don't have something in AC3 Filter set properly?

I use AutoGK to compress the DVD to XviD format. The defaults are used and 5.1 audio track is selected in AutoGK.

I just noticed, audio output type in AutoGK defaults to 'Auto'. The next option is 'Original (AC3/DTS/MPA Only). So, is 'original' what I should be using? I never thought about it before but could the 'auto' option under audio be stripped the 5.1 surround from the files?

Alright, I got it going. Using 'Auto' for the sound converts it to MP3. Original as I suspected was the way to go.

Everything is working great now!

Penquin, Now that you have it in Xvid..can you play it across an MVP?

That's my problem...It plays, but the FF and RW's do not work....(I'm using Divx)

Happy to help. Sometimes the best answer is the one you find yourself.

They appear to play well. FF & RW don't play too nice however. The slowest FF or RW speed seems to be OK but anything quicker and it becomes unresponsive for about 20 seconds. I'd imagine I big part of that though is my HTPC machine. The hardware in it is getting dated.

The Server transcodes the XviD back to MPG for MVP, so FF needs to hold until the transcoder can catch up...
