Case

Has anyone seen this or have any thoughts on the video out? I read one review on New Egg and the guy said it was just as good via S-Video as his DVD player to his TV.

http://usa.asus.com/products/desktop...t/overview.htm

I was looking at that one or this one:

The ASUS one is barebones system so for about $180 it isn't a bad price and I think it looks good. I am just worried about the video out quality since I will install a sound card with optical out and the tuner card so both the PCI slots are taken.

Ohh i found this case.

http://web.epox.com/html/ex5.htm

It has optical out built in so I think I may use this for my clients. Pop in the PVR-250 and I am thinking a Radeon 9000 for the TV out.

Only problem with the cubes are the limited expansion slots.

It works for me though. I only plan on having one tuner card in each system since I will have 3 or 4 of them.

But this EPoX I am not finding anywhere online.

EPoX does also may some systems with the VIA CPU but they have limited specs on them and I can not find them for sale anywhere ether.

Pundit has no AGP
No AGP = no decent Video Card.
No decent Video Card is bad.

For a detailed discussion, see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ghlight=pundit

Thanks for the link. Bad VGA is fine with me since this would only be hooked up to a TV and not a monitor. But if the PVR-350 is suppose to be the best over all for TV out then that works for me.

ACtually, the Matrox G series [I have a 550] is the best I've seen. Outputs in pure interlaced format. But, it's an AGP card so you need an AGP slot.

I decided to get an Asus mobo with no video card but gigabit ethernet on the board, and just added that card.

We use the Pundit as the basis for 2 tuner Sage based PVRs we sell. It makes an excellent platform for high stability, performance as well as picture quality. It has excellent s-video and composite output as well as DVI for newer HDTV units.

CPU usage between 40-50% when recording on both tuners at 5.5 gig/hour and playing back at 5.5 gig/hour. No hickups or audio/video glitches.

Of course we spent a lot of time configuring our units to be just that reliable, you may have different results.

Note: the video card drivers it ships with are not good, the drivers we ship out units with are the latest from SIS and look great.

DO you have any other adive on the sfotware end to make it work so well?

Also, is the optical out able to be moded to work out the rear of the unit?

Thanks!

Fresh build of Windows XP or Windows 2000, latest drivers for the all the system components, all service packs and updates for Windows. Minimal install (drivers, hauppage sw decoder, ir software and of course Sage).

You can also try other decoders to see what looks best with you TV.
