Horrible quality cable...

excuse me for my ignorance on this but i am new to tuner cards. I actually have a hauppauge wintv usb2 tuner card and my video card is a nvidia 5200 ultra. I have 1GB of ram on a 2.0 ghz amd 64 bit processor. I have recently purchased sagetv...which I'm thinking (no offense) might have been a waste but after getting it all set up and installed the picture quality is horrible...grainy and slow. It is not the cable connection because i plug that same cable into a tv here and it's crystal clear. I'm running the audio through the sound card input, not the usb. I also have tried closing basically everything but sage and still have the same result. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or soft but if anyone has advice it'd be appreciated. thanks much.

If you are using a WinTV-USB2, you've got a tuner w/a software encoder & would get much better recording results from a hardware encoding tuner, such as the WinTV-PVR-USB2.

Cool same problem..

Hey Andy,

I have the same newbie issue minus the complaint, I think it's great and its me not using the ultimate settings.

I just built a new media pc, core 2 1.83, 1gb ddr3, bla bla bla it has enough power.

Now, for tuner card, i'm using WinTV-PVR-500 MCE, which has hardware encoding not software. What settings can I modifiy so that my quality improves?

Thanks!

Ponchera,

I hate to keep kicking the same idea around, but have you tried the WinTV software that came with your Haupaugge card? Also, how is the picture quality bad? Stuttering / grainy / blurry?

If it's a grainy problem, you may want to see the thread here for possible solutions...I've been on a bit of a "how to fine-tune my stupid tuner card" kick lately.

It may not be your specific problem, but a few people seem to be having this lately....

grainy..

Mine looks grainy/pixelated.

I have it attached to a 32" LCD HDTV that has very good quality. When I had it hooked to the Comcast dvr box via s-video it look nice an crisp and vivid. I want to get as close as possible to that. I'm connecting now via a DVI from to a EVGA e-GeForce 7600GT Dual DVI-I/HDTV w/ S-Video PCI Express.

I'll try a screen cap later, see if that helps ts the issue. I read the other post, and I kind of do have that issue too, some chanels are all fuzzy w/ snow but I wasn't blaming the PC yet for that. I thought my wall outlet was busted cause of the couch. I'll double check w/ winTV and on a laptop with Win MCE see what happens.
