Yet another rendering: overlay/default XP error?
I read all the prior posts on folks who had overlay or rendering issues with their Sage Clients, none of the answers worked for me. My deal:
- Got a SageTV XP server that used to have my G550 in it, all was fine. Decided to buy a client license for my VAIO laptop running XPHome that has a built-in FX5200. Worked fine. Wish I could tell you more but as I've moved the client key over even a hard bounce of server & this HTPC client don't seem to be letting go of the key, so I can't login to SageTV from laptop at this time to see what the filter/decoder was. Decided laptop sucked for client usage, built an HTPC client based on A7V600 and XPHome, dropped my G550 into that, moved the client key to that machine, no workie. If I set the rendering filter to Overlay, I get an error connecting the videostream to the overlay mixer. If I set the rendering filter to Default, I get a failed rendering video stream. In both instances, I am using the default Video encoder and default mpeg mode. Any brilliant thoughts? |

What are your default video and audio decorders (which MPEG2 decoders do you have installed)

Huh. Now that you mention it, that could be part of the problem - this is a brand new hard disk, brand new mobo, brand new install. I haven't specifically put any decoders on it. [this is my first DIY PC in 15 years - i'm finding a lot of things have changed and a lot of things need to be manually added when you don't buy OTS]
Does XP comes with an mpeg decoder? [i.e., can't WMP play mpegs? What does that use?]. |

Nope, XP does not come with any mpeg2 decoders. The best bet is to get the hauppauge decoders off their website (or from the PVR 250 disk) which are a based on intervideo i believe. That, or install a software DVD player (power DVD is popular - trial version available). Then instead of setting it to default manually select the decoder (once installed it should appear on the drop down lists under detailed setup) and give that a go,

Well color me stupid.
I've got the PVR-250 on my HTPC server, so I'll grab those off the disk. Thanks guys. |

To fix the SageTVClient license key issue, just restart the SageTV server.
