How to set default properties?

Hi all,

Is there a way to set default properties for unknown PS clients? I am using SageMC as a default stv with all users, but I would like to disable some things, and enable others for users by default. I have not found a sageps.properties.defaults. Is there such a thing?

TIA

B

There is a RemoteClients.properties.defaults in the Sage folder. You could probably use and add to this so when a new Placeshifter ot MVP client is used it will begin with these default.

I looked at that. All it had were remote control codes?

Unknown clients would be PCs that have not connected yet. The users have an option to specify a STV, but then the STV is configured to default settings which aren't really PS or MVP friendly (all the visual effects) I am looking for a way to make it better so I don't have to tweak each client.

That's the file-RemoteClients.properties.defaults. Make sure you have enabled in Windows to see the extensions of the files. There are no remote codes in that file.

RemoteClients.properties.defaults does have the default ui/rc_mappings properties for the MVP remote in there, among other properties. But, if you edit any of the xxx.properties.defaults files, expect them to be overwritten the next time the installer runs -- I would think it would simply overwrite them with the latest defaults, though I've never actually looked into that.

That will teach me to post from work without being able to see the file. But this should be able to be used for what the OP wanted.

Does this hold default settings for PS clients as well as MVP? I can live with updating the file when I install a new version of Sage.

TIA

Well, the Placeshifter is a remote client, so I imagine it would still use those defaults. You could try setting a couple things & see what happens. Just run Placeshifter on the local system to see the results.

Just hoping to get confirmation before I start changing default files. When the TV system breaks, it is no fun at my house.

The client/server relationship of Sage is a two-edged sword

Has anyone tried this? I'd like any new PS client to have certain config, like disabled animations.

Just did this last night for first time.
  1. Setup a PS client
  2. Copy properties from client file
  3. Paste into remote defaults file
  4. Remove the ui/ui_overscan section from the pasted contents (4 Lines)
  5. Ensure that all PS users are pointed to the proper XML file for their STV

This worked great for me. I also use Bob's Favorite Channel Lists to restrict MVP/PS users from getting to my HD channels. I don't want to have to transcode them on the fly
