Add recording back into SageTV Recordings

I had to move some files around due to a dying disk, so I shut down SageTV and moved several files around on various disks on my system.

Some of the recordings do not appear anymore under the "SageTV Recordings". The missing recordings show up as movies I can import.

My question is: Can I somehow put the movies now showing up in the "import" section back into the "SageTV Recordings" so that they are back where they used to be?

Thanks in advance.

I believe not. Due to sage limitations (in the current version due to the wiz.bin) you cannot just move files.

What you would normally have to do, is backup the wiz.bin file. Add a new directory as a second video import directory. Shutdown sage. Move files to the new folder. Restart sage (to let it see the files have moved). Then remove the old import dir.

If you fail, you always have the old wiz.bin

Its a P.I.T.A. but it works. Rumor has it the new beta version doesnt use a wiz.bin anymore.

Um... are you making things up to see what you might get in response?

Thanks - That is what I thought. I do remember someone having a non-official program to edit the wiz.bin file, but I am not sure who has it and what it can do.

I thought I followed the steps correctly, but I must have moved too many files around on various disks.

Quick question: If I shut down SageTV and I place the files back into their original location, will SageTV see them again, or did SageTV already mark them bye-bye?

If you shutdown sage and put them back in the original place Sage should see them.

This is definatly not true -- Moving files while sage is up *should* be possible -- with a few caveats

You missed a step: via my webserver, or my xml show info export check that sage's internal airing ID matches the ID in the filename, and rename the file if not.

Interesting rumormill you have there!

Anyway, you should be able to move files while sage is up, just make sure the filename has the correct ID -- AiringsID's can change after files have been recorded (for a variety of reasons)...

If you want to re-attach the file to an airing, search the DB with my webserver, find the correct airing ID, and re-name the file to match the correct airing ID.

(big how-to for attaching recompressed recordings to airings for Sage 2.2 here -- most of it can be skipped because your files do not need to be recompressed and the timestamps are correct)

Thanks.

This brings up another question

I would like to group selected recordings so that they show up under a specific folder. SageTV automatically groups recordings of the same type under a single folder like "Star Trek" for example.

If I rename recordings to all have the same prefix like "Favorites-xxxx" (preserving the recording ID and name), will these recordings now show up under one folder called "Favorites"?

In FidgetyRat's defense, I have read that the wiz.bin is dead in the new beta as well... See this post.

Of course I think the premis is that a cat was typing the comments...

So that's where it came from. That was in a whole list of posts where people just made things up for the ^$#&% of it, including me saying that the next version consists of nothing more than selectively removing existing features as part of the new "Less is More" concept. I figured everyone would know all those posts were BS.

Rumors of wiz.bin's death are greatly exaggerated.

Andy, this is interesting, I would have expected a definite "rumors of wiz.bin's death are not true" ...
So we might see some change in this area ?

Amost definitely -- my wiz.bin has grown larger than ever before. I would say that everyone should expect the same.
