What do I need to use Placeshifter?

I'm on the east coast, with my laptop currently connected to the college tv network by my 'Angel USB TV Tuner' on windows MCE.

Under these conditions, can I simply purchase the 30 dollar placeshifter, and have it connected to my PVR at home on the west coast?

Do I still need sagetv v.5 even though I already have TV software with windows MCE?

Is my TV tuner compatable?

Sorry, I'm just getting the hang of all this..

Sage TV Place Shifter requires Sage TV server to connect to. You angel USB may work with tweaking, I don't think it will work out of the box. The Lumanate cards/devices seem to use different chipsets.

Placeshifter is not standalone software; it requires that you have SageTV running on your server. It connects to SageTV & provides the full UI with access to all your media from a LAN or remote location.

Is my TV tuner compatable?

I don't know anything about that tuner, but there is a list here: SageTV System Requirements
