cutting sagetv recordings
is it possible to cut segments out of sagetv recorded video without losing quality and without decoding/re-encoding video? It's stored as MPEG-2 right? I guess that's pretty standard format? Do you use any particular programs to cut these videos that you'd recommend?

Here's a third....We must have a quorum. VideoRedo is a good product that's easy to use. not very flashy to look at, but it works well.

here's another question: can one use VideoRedo to crop the video? Or can AutoGK do that? Reason I ask is, my recordings all have that top section of moving white blocks, common to cable tv it seems but not seen on a tv... just wondering if I can get rid of that in any easy manner.

Of course if you're wanting to archive the show or play it using a player that can't adjust the overscan you'd still want to crop. I have no experience with that though. |

This is slightly off-topic, but I have been playing around with a free "standalone" DVD Authoring application called DVDStyler. It requires no installation, running from a single directory tree, and can be easily run from a USB Memory Stick. It is a basic, yet decent DVD authoring tool. While it's certainly no ULEAD or other high-end product, it's quick, clean, and doesn't require "installation".

Thanks for the suggestion guys, VideoRedo is a really nice and easy to use tool, only problem is in my first night using it it is cutting video clips with synchronization problems between sound and video. I see people's lips move a second or two before the audio of their voice comes in. It's kinda annoying... how can I fix this easily?

Personally, I would love to see a feature/plugin created for SageTV that, while watching recorded video content, would enable me to simply mark "in" and "out" points in the video, and save the marked "clip" as a new recording.
Imagine while viewing a show, you see some content that you would like to save for later or to show someone else, but don't want to have to save the entire show (for example, an interesting news blurb, a commercial, or whatever.) You would pause the video at the beginning of the clip, invoke some new menu with an option of setting the first "in" point, then resume playback/ff/rew, invoke the menu again to mark the second "out" point, invoke the menu once again and save the clip between the two points to a new, viewable file. Combined with the Burn to DVD plugin, this could be very, very powerful. While this certainly can be done currently by using many external video editors, the real power would be to be able to use it from within SageTV without having to exit to an external program.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently using the standard STV, but maybe soon, I'll look into SageMC. I'm looking into replacing my old 26" tube TV with a "real" HDTV, so once I do that, I'll probably have a greater incentive to move to SageMC.

This info is stored in wiz.bin, right? Is there any way to edit that or to force an update for a specific directory? |
