Any way to make it so if you press Guide button twice it closes open guide?

I find it odd that if I press the Guide button and go into a screen with the grid of programs airing that the only way I can go back to the channel I was watching before I pressed Guide is to press the TV button... shouldn't pressing Guide while in the guide just close it and send you back to the channel? Any way to hack this?

The function of the Guide command while in the Program Guide is to jump to the current time. You could change that using Studio, but there are no built-in options for it in the default STV.

Workarounds: Map a remote key to 'Back' (goes to previous screen) or to 'Home' (goes to main menu)

Or use my 'MultiFunctionStop' plugin -- the Stop key is then used to go to the home screen when nothing is playing, and when something is playing, it puts up a popup asking whether you want to stop playback, or go home...

I also use the "Back" key to return. But I find it very odd that pressing Guide button while it is up doesn't return to TV, as it appears to be standard on just about every cable/satellite box I've seen. And I worked for TWC for 4 yrs when I was in college. I wish there is someway to change that in STV.

You could change the current Guide listener in that menu to simply be this single line instead:

SageCommand("Back")

It would then go back to the previous screen, which would be playback if that's where you were when you jumped to the Guide.

To find that listener, search for this exact text:

SetFocusForVariable("Airing", this)

That should work.

I felt the same when I started with SageTV, and that's why this was one of the first things I made configurable in SageMC ...

It isn't just a file to edit... you would have to use Studio to change the funtionality of the STV you are using for your SageTV user interface. Studio is the built-in tool that is used to modify what the STV does as you use SageTV. There is info on that tool in the Studio section of the forum.

SageMC is an alternate User Interface, UI, that has been designed by fellow users to improve upon the Stock Sage UI.

Here is the link to the info you need.STV: SageMC 16x9 11/26/2005 Sage 4.x Version 5_10 for the basic SageMC package and then STV: SageMC 16x9 Version 6.x (latest dev build) .

Go to the first link to see some screenshots and read about the functionality, and then go to the second link to see the later improvements. In order to get the lastest package, you will need to install both the 5_10 package and then the 6.10a package.
