i'm having trouble getting the "Comskip Playback w/ support for EDL" v1.14 to work with comskip... i verified comskip was placing edl files in my recording dir. i setup v1.14 by starting a new "SageTV3.xml" and then import the "Comskip Playback w/ support for EDL". i creates a new stv and appears to install, but i am not getting commercial breaks displayed in any of the shows....

i also can't find any note of the import in any menus. this version says it adds a mini menu to toggle comskip on/off, but i can't find it anywere.

any ideas?

jryan15. There should be Comskip Playback Options in Setup/Customize, and while playing a show if you press option there should be an option of Autoskip Enable/Disable.

Have you checked that there is data in the .edl file?
What version of Sage are you running?

John

thanks for the reply... i opened one of the edl files which looked like (Below).

173.14 320.25 0
658.32 900.00 0
1630.00 1798.70 0
1799.16 1799.20 0

i'm running sage version V6.0.11.108. i didn't see a comskip playback menu in customize. before i had been using a modified stv with nielm's comskip plugin.

each time that i have retried this plugin, i load a new 'SageTV3.xml' file (the one that was modified 9/27/06 @ 10:15am) and then load the comskip w/edl plugin v1.14. each time sage creates a new stv and i'm on version 9 now.

just not sure what to try. i could try a complete reinstall, but last time i did it was a complete nightmare with the mvp's. i finally had to revert to the older 6.0.11 version...

The ability to turn comskip on and off from the playback menu was lost in the transition to version 6 of sage. But you should still find skip configuration menu at the bottom of the setup/customize page (as JREkiwi said). What you're seeing looks like a correct .edl (cut start/stops in seconds).

Others may have better suggestions, but then this happens to me, I start with just trying to install again -- without going back a sage .xml version.
If that doesn't work, I backup my stagetv install (the sagetv subdirs) to a zip file (you may need to shut down sagetvservice to backup wiz.bin -- a very important file! -- then restart it). Then I remove all of the sagetv3-*.xml files from SageTV\STVs\SageTV3, unzip my plugins again in case some piece got changed, point sage back to sagetv3 (should be there already since you deleted the file it was using), and start importing my stvi files again.

jryan15,

do you have the jar file from the zip file in the Jars directory and have you restarted Sage or the service if you are running as a service.

It sounds like the stvi is not loading properly. It uses flachbar's import library and that requires a restart of Sage to be picked up.

The 1.14 version does have the ability to turn comskip on and off from the playback menu in version 5 and 6.

nice call JREkiwi! the jar file didn't make it into the directory. not sure exactly why it didn't, no doubt operator error... looks to be all good now thanks to everyone's help.

New version of RW My Files 1.2 (6 Nov 2006)

- Fixes filenames when creating .my file from any past or future airing.
- Removed manual .my file creation for imported videos.

Files are still created for imported videos when automatic .my file creation is turned on. (Creates a template file with no data)

John

I am also having that issue with the ComSkip plug-in - after importing the .STVi, it doesn't seem to add the options int the Customize menu. I do have the Added features turned on, and I am running Sage 6.0.13...

Actually it's a 3 step process, I should mention that on the first post.
Step 1. Unzip into SageTV maintaining the directories. (The df_sageutils.jar from the zip file needs to be in the JARS directory)
Step 2. Restart Sage so it will pick up the jar. If you are running as a service you need to restart the service.
Step 3. Load the import

Actually, restarting the client is sufficient to pick up the new JAR files ...

I always get confused with this. Since I've been using df_sageutils since you first released them, it's been a long time since I've done a fresh install. I know I need to stop my service when I update to a new version.

Without your great import library I wouldn't have even bothered to try to do any of this stuff. Once more .... Thanks

New version of RW My Files 1.4.1

- Couple of minor fixes causing errors when Notify on Errors was turned on.

New version of Modded Comskip 1.1.5

- Deletes Comskip files when recording is deleted

Both can be installed over the top of previous versions

John

Is there an issue with the Compskip Playback w/EDL support when using transport stream files (*.ts)? I recently switched from recording program stream files to transport stream files due to this bug, and now even though Comskip is running and generating what appear to be valid EDL files, the commercial markers are not longer showing up during playback.

OK I know nothing about STVi's really, but I opened up comskip_pb_imp_eld_mod.stvi in a text editor and found where it appears to be checking file types in a conditional statement, and it's only looking for AVI and MPG file extensions. I would think this should be an easy change, would it just be a matter of changing line 386 to this?

<Conditional Name="(GetMediaFileID(GetCurrentMediaFile()) != comshowid) && (GetNumberOfSegments(GetCurrentMediaFile()) > 0) && IsVideoFile(GetCurrentMediaFile()) && (StringEndsWith(GetFileForSegment(GetCurrentMediaFile(),0),".avi") || StringEndsWith(GetFileForSegment(GetCurrentMediaFile(),0),".ts") || StringEndsWith(GetFileForSegment(GetCurrentMediaFile(),0),".mpg"))">

Sorry for the word-wrap, but all I did was add an additional StringEndsWith() check to the conditional. But I'm a little hesitant to make this change and import it without hearing from someone who knows a bit more about this stuff.

There's another couple of things that would need changing as the selection of the correct comskip file is based on a video file name with an extension with 3 characters.
It's done the same way in SageMC too. I'll have a look and see what I can do.

I'd appreciate it. I tried making the change above and it didn't work. I really don't want to switch back to recording program stream because then if I get another corrupted mpg that I can't ff/rw on, I'd have to first convert it to transport stream before running mpeg2repair on it (which takes a lot of extra time when dealing with 5+GB files).

jkohn, try this. I can't test it. I think it might do it, although I'll fix up any problems you find before I replace the current version.

John

Edit: Removed test version

Didn't work unfortunately. If there's anything I can do to help debug, let me know.
