stranger dvd playback issue drive not being seen

Ok so for some reason sage isn't seeing my dvd drive and when I play I just get a black screen. I haven't cleared it out and done a clean install cuz I want to figure this out just in case it happens again. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening.

Windows 2000
latest sage
hauppauge 150
8x dvd burner

p.s. I did test the drive using windvd and it worked fine.?!?

Try cycling the tray when this happens. In WMP I sometimes get a "can't play due to CSS something or other", and in Sage, a black screen...a tray cycle fixes it. Also, give Windows time to regognize the DVD...I usually count to 5 before hitting play

Thanks Polypro, but no luck. After trying that I noted that it doesn't seem to be trying to read the drive at all. The read light doesn't blink or anything. I have checked to ensure that the computer is reading the drive. Everything seems ok I have no clue why it is that it doesn't see the drive.

Can XP see the drive? With Sage clent and service shut down, does plain old Windows spin up the drive and recognize the drive...displaying the title of the DVD in Explorer? If not, try removing it in Device Manager and re-adding it by scanning for new hardware. If XP is good to go, I have no Idea other than making sure both the Sage GUI and the properties file have the "DVD -ROM Drive" set to "Yes".

I tried removng the drive and allowing to reinstall. I am in windows 2000 not xp but that shuldn't make much of a difference. I am going to reinstall from the ground up and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for the advice. I will update after I reload.
