Please help get my SageTV working...
I'm trying out the demo of SageTV 5.0, but with no luck.
When trying to watch a channel, i get this error: "error (-10) No encoders can tune the selected station" I'm using the Hauppauge 500MCE tuner. I know the tuner works, and can watch TV because i can successfully watch TV in "WinTV2000" which is the basic software from Hauppauge. That is the only way i can currently get a good signal. My Windows Media Center makes my PC reboot when i attempt to watch live TV, or even view previously recorded video. For curiosity, i tried capturing from Windows Movie Maker. But i get the error: "The device is not responding" I've come to SageTV as an alternative to Windows Media Center, but neither is working. How come WinTV2000 works, but nothing else does? I've wasted about 2 full days with this with no success. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, John |

Did you use the tuner setup wizard in sageTV to set up both tuners? If so, did you get a successful video preview for them?

No I cannot get a successful playback, all i get is static.
Anyway, since my post, I installed a 3rd party nVidia driver (from Omega). Now my Windows Media Center works again! That's a relief. But I still cannot use SageTV... i get the same error. I'd love to use Sage because it records straight to MPEG2 instead of MS-DVR or whatever format MS uses. I also still can't tune in with Windows Movie Maker. I don't get the same error... it just hangs. But at least MCE is working. I'll try re-installing Sage and see if that helps... John |

How about uninstalling the WinTV2000 app as it's possible that it is controlling the tuners and won't release them so that SageTV can control them instead.

Did you disable the MCE services before trying Sage? If not MCE will have control over the tuners and Sage can't use them.

If video card, it's the one that came w/ the disc. I also installed the Omega 3rd party driver. That is the key to getting my MCE working again. Befor Omega nothing worked. If hauppauge card, i installed the latest driver from their site. John |

If you have MCE running on this system then you can't use the cards in SageTV also. You need to disable the MCE services before Sage can access the cards.
Video card has nothing to do with this issue as it has nothing to do with the video capture process - only playback. |

Ok, i just disabled the MCE Services and rebooted. It made no difference in Sage. Exactly the same error. Note: the error i get... i get it IMMEDIATELY after trying to tune into a channel. No delay at all. It's like Sage isn't even attempting to tune in; it just gives me the error. How lazy is that! ![]() Anything else i can try before giving up? Thanks, John |

Did you disable all the services? There are several I think. Just to cover possible simple mistakes, did you confirm the services didn't restart when you rebooted?

But guess what?... I just uninstalled Sage and reinstalled it. Now it works! Unbelievable! I should have tried that first. Well, thanks everyone for spending time trying to help my problem. I really appreciate it! This is an excellent forum w/ very helpful members. Now i'm off to tinker w/ it and make sure i want to stick w/ it rather than use WinXP MCE. Remember, i went to Sage after my MCE quit working. Right now i'm loving how i can have a VERY small tv window tucked to the corner of my screen. MCE is annoying in that it's smallest window size is relatively large. Plus Sage records to standart mpeg2. One less step if i want to burn a dvd or do other things with it... Thanks again... John |
