Ahgg...so can we say with certainty that we're basically getting the shaft on CD player or CD ripping support for SageTV (Windows)?

I just give up. I've started threads, polls (you can still find it, and people WANT it), sent "official feature requests (apparently no one cares)," and still nothing.

WHAT DOES SAGETV HAVE AGAINST LETTING PEOPLE PLAY A REGULAR OLD CD ON THEIR HTPC?

Is it technically hard to implement (I think not, almost every other media player software can do it), does SageTV think that it's not a "value added" feature (um...what would this be based on, obviously not the people that responded to my poll)? Heck, about 50% of those polled (that said they wanted the support), said it was also worth a $10 upgrade cost to get it, myself included?! Still not listening?

Don't get me wrong, I love SageTV, and while this seems like I'm a bit peeved (I really am), I just do not understand, nor has anyone from Sage tried to explain why it is not being offered as a feature. IMO, this is the ONLY feature that is keeping my SageTV installation from being perfect. I've got everything else I could ever dream of asking for...except this one little thing.

I'm sure this will start the bandwagon jumping...feel free!

(BTW, I'm a "Sage Icon" now, so people should just listen to me! )

LOL--don't worry. Wasn't planning on ditching that just yet---but i hope that means I don't need to upgrade to one that has the SPDIF output ('cause mine and lots others out there don't!!).
Can't Wait

Fully functional DVB-S and DVB-T is going to give your UK sales a massive boost. I'll be the first one in the www.avforums.com championing the cause as there are plenty of MCE users looking for alternatives and would-be HTPC users that don't want to jump through the hoops necessary to get DVB-S in MCE. I'm guessing theres no CAM support built in yet but is it something on your radar? DVB-S2? MPEG-4 over DVB-S/S2?

Hmmm. If these functions really are new:

sage.api.Configuration

GetDVBTRegions (since 5.1)
SetDVBTRegion (since 5.1)
GetDVBTRegion (since 5.1)

GetDVBCRegions (since 5.1)
SetDVBCRegion (since 5.1)
GetDVBCRegion (since 5.1)

GetDVBSRegions (since 5.1)
SetDVBSRegion (since 5.1)
GetDVBSRegion (since 5.1)

Maybe we are getting built-in support for DVB-C & DVB-S. Or it may be related to some other stuff. Here's hoping for DVB-C

I've been looking through the v5.1 API a bit. I might be wrong, but I think they've got this method working flawlessly in v5.1

sage.api.Utility

I'm also looking forward to the new release. (That keeps this post on subject.)

Hmm, amg! Do you know a little something that your not confirming, by chance?

Real DVD playback via the MVP would (almost) be enough to make me wet myself.

Im not sure what else Sage could do with the MVP to make it better, outside of emulated DVD playback. (real menus, etc)... (besides fixing widescreen videos)

Rather than have DVD playback transcoded to the MVP, I'd MUCH rather see Sage running on this http://www.buffalotech.com/products/...&categoryid=18

Not me...I own 3 MVPs and 0 of that There is something to be said for suppporting the purchases that your customer base has already made. I'm not saying not to do that AFTER. But I'd MUCH rather increased capability of what I already own.

Coming from an integrator side (and I do own 2 MVP's, so I am somewhat vested in those as well), I'd much rather see a HD-capable box, (not these little MVP's, while they do work well for SD content, I think HD capabilities are the next step), so I can sell Sage solutions. I've got at least 4 or 5 setups ready to go, just waiting on a HD extender.

I know they are working on one, and I would also dare say they've been working on it long enough to have something that works, now I just wish they'd release the darn thing .

I'm still waiting (several years now) for Quicktime support. All my camera home movies are in that format, and I have been patiently waiting.

According to this post Sage will already play most quicktime files. Never tried it myself though because I hate quicktime files.

I guess no word on updates to the music interface... I still long for the ability to delete your entire music db so you can import your music files from scratch

HD Capabilities may be the next step, but since the vast majority of people here use primarily SD, there's no reason not to concentrate more on an MVP that does SD. Deadbold is dead on - a LOT to be said about the after sales support.

I don't know what changes were made, but I believe it has already been said the music section of Sage has gotten an overhaul.
