I think by "feature complete" he meant "reads minds". Yeah... that's the ticket. So if is your thing, then that's what you'll get!

The way I read it, feature-complete means no new functionality will be added between the time of this beta and the official update.

It already reads mind....has since V1.0....that's what Intelligent Recording does. (OK, maybe it doesn't actually read your mind but at least it tries to make an educated guess about what your mind is thinking)

My 2 wishes would be:

1. Fix the sluggishness in the system that was introduced at v 5.04
2. Release the dang HD extender, so I can sell this thing to a couple clients . (not to mention drop a few clients in my house as well).

It does a pretty good job of it. Just wish you could tell it to never ever record this show or from a specific channel.

you're wasting precious coding/debugging time posting here, now get back to work! *WHIP*WHIP!*

We want 5.1!
We want 5.1!
We want 5.1!

And yes, I haven't taken my medications for today.

Hehehehe. This thread is funny. It only points out very strongly how big of GEEKS we all are. Holy crap. Getting excited over the release of a beta version of software?!?!?! Heavens, is this what it has all come to!?!?!?!

Also, as a side note, I agree completely with LovingHDTV! I can actually enjoy my long weekend and not be longing to be home and playing with Sage.

I should also point out that Sage combines two of my biggest loves: Computers and Television. I am soooo pathetic.

If you think the excitement level on the forum is high, you should have been around before & during the v2 beta release!

Ah yes.. I remember those days.

I was a forum lurker and had no idea what I was doing. In fact, I still have no idea what I'm doing.

Back then with my Creative DigitalVCR that had audio sync issues. At that time, I thought 60GB would be more than enough for recording everything I ever wanted.

Sage has come a long way...

Ok.. enough nostalgia, where's 5.1?

I never got excited about v2. It didn't do HD.

By the way, my Creative Video Blaster is still going strong and is still my only analog tuner. With the quality of HD, I hardly ever use it anymore.

Hush.. nobody is supposed to know.. not yet... shhh...

How about posting us the changelog.. or what is new..

I never fully understood the secrecy on these releases.. why not let us in on what is being worked on both now and in the future.. there is no need to promise any of it, simply a roadmap of ideas and features.. Seeing as this beta was going to be released today, and has now slipped a week due to bugs, I'd bet you could post a list of things it will feature without much risk..

Or....

I'll just wait..

Maybe all of the folks going away for the weekend have left and won't notice if you released it for the rest of us to play with. Especially with a rain filled weekend, I don't expect to be outside much, and it also saves me money since I won't be out shopping instead.

I am waiting for commercial skip built into Sage before I upgrape my 5.02. I need good reason to upgrade and I have been very satisfied with 5.02 to bother updating.

I really want commercial skip built into Sage. Those plugin customizations I don't trust.

Why don't you trust the customizations? Many people have used the commercial skip plugins for years without any problems. If something goes wrong all you have to do is revert back to the stock stv. There are many very useful plugins available. I have at least half a dozen or more installed on all of my clients.

I guess it's possible it might be added at some point, but I would hope they have more important things to work on than something that is already easily added through an import.

You really should check them out. You are missing out on a lot of great stuff-including commercial skip!

okay, okay I'll rephrase. I don't trust myself to not mess up a perfectly running nicely tuned Sage system. There seems to be a lot of steps involved and alot of threads when I run a search.

Blade,

Can you recommend where I should start? If someone would be nice enough to link me to a one-stop thread that's easy to follow then I'll try it out because comm skip would be noce to have. The ShowAnalyser thread is 895 posts long and I don't know where to begin. I know that I should get Dirmin2 to automatically invoke the SA files but I don't understand the mechanics.

I'm tired of advancing 10sec at a time on my MVP remote. I want transparent commercial skipping with no interaction. I'm lazy that way.

Do the comm skip work on MVP? 95% of my TV watching is via the MPV and I rarely watch on the HDTV other than DVDs.

Im lazy too, but it was something I wanted, so I read the thread. Some times you have to do a little work in order to be lazy. The SA thread is long because Jere keeps improving the software. You don't have to read the entire thing to get the idea of what needs to be done.

There are two different stvi's now for commercial skipping. The edl stvi and the comskip stvi. Both don't appear to do anything visible to the sagetv interface accept add a menu to your detailed set up menu. The plug in will not do anything without the output file of a commercial scanning program like ShowAnalyzer or Comskip. Dirmon2 just tells your program which files to decode and when.

I doubt that SageTV is going to put in native support for commercial skipping. (at least not the file processing part of it) I would think it could expose them to litigation from content providers. There was a company (sonicblue) making replaytv devices with native commercial detection that got into some trouble for such things. You can also play pirated music and movies through SageTV but that doesn't mean that the company is going to build in tools to help you do it and label it as a feature.

Simply the fact that the software can be made to do all the things that it can speaks volumes for SageTV and there opening up of the Studio tool. The community of plug in developers makes things possible that a corporation might be hesitant to develop. There are plenty of other features that are currently in stvi form that may very well get integrated into a new version. Typically though, new core features show up from the SageTV folks rather than the user group. Things like Placeshifter, HDTV recording and Linux support. If you want the icons in cornflower blue you'll probably have to read up about how to do it. In my opinion you should look at SageTV as a hobby. The more time you invest in reading and learning, the more rewarding it is. After all you could have bought a Tivo.

Roxy99, its not that hard, just download Dirmon2 and SA or Comskip. You can have it running in less than 5 minutes. On jarejones website, there's a step by step instruction to set up DirMon with SA or Comskip, and it comes with screenshots too. It can't be any more straight foward. And works fine with the MVP.

As for SageTV including comskip, I'm sure it can easily be done if they wanted to. BeyondTV has commercial skip since version 3.x I think. They called it Smart Skip. As for the legal matters, being just a software, all they have to do is remove the feature if they get sue. Unlike ReplayTV where they sell it with the hardware, and remember ReplayTV won that lawsuit against the TV networks concerning commercial skipping. Besides, I think SageTV including placeshifter is just as much susceptible to legal threats as commercial skipping. And Slingmedia with slingshot box is in the same boat.
