Component output to TV

I know I am missing something simple, so help would be appreciated..

I have a Sony XBR 36 inch TV (4 X 3)..Since I have had the TV, whenever I play component output to it, the picture is always in 16 X 9 format, thus I have black bars on top and bottom. (I just thought that was the way it was supposed to be.)

So, I have been using Svideo with SageTV because I would get fullscreen 4 X 3.

Shouldn't I be able to get 4X3 using Component with Sage TV. Thus, a better outputed picture than with S-video?

My computer, using Sage, outputs to a receiver that then ouputs S-video and component to the TV.

Also, I am using a Nvidia 6200 card.

Thanks for the comments and help,

Gary Ellis

Hi Gary,

What is your video source? What decoder do you use? Have you set 4:3 TV ouptut in Nvidia display properties?

If you are displaying HD or DVD content, that would be the expected behavior I would think. I took a look in my PureVideo decoder properties, there is an aspect ratio setting there as well.

Hi,

I am using cable input to a Hauppauge 150 card.

I am using the Nvidia decoder and using pure video gold...

I expect the DVD or HD picture to come out as 16 X 9...

I have tried changing a few of the setting in Pure video gold, and usually the picture becomes a 4X3 within the 16X9 screen...i.e., I have bars on top and bottom and on both sides...

Have you been able to get full screen 4X3 using component? what screen output setting are you using in Pure video?

Thanks,

Gary

Sounds like a TV issues, that your TV does an automatic squeaze on, probably anything over 480i. If you run 480i over component you might get a 4x3 picture.
