What is Video Quality like using PlaceShifter?

I have a weekend lake cottage with a broadband connection and 42" plasma EDTV. I'm curious what kind of video quality I'm likely to see if I try rigging up an HTPC to my Lake House TV?

Thanks!

Entirely bandwidth dependent. To get a decent image on a 50" plasma I'd of thought you'd need at least 2mbit upstream from home and likewise downstream to the cottage.

I get a poor but watchable picture on my laptop with only 400kb upstream but it would look dreadful on a larger screen.

I found that adding:

dynamic_encoding/video_resolution=D1 helps...it keeps it at the higher D1 resolution and even while having Sage determine the dyanamic bandwidth. I get a nice picture at ~400kb on a 32"....50" now that is a different story

setting

That settings made a big difference to the placeshifter on my work pc with an upload speed of about 200KB from home. My isp should have been upgrading me to 6.5MB download and 488KB uploads a month ago but nothing as yet I'd given up using placeshifter from here but now I'll start again cheers for that tip.

What properties file would this go in?

I updated the SageTVPlaceshifter.properties file in the c:program files\sagetv\placeshifter folder on the placeshifter client. I hope this is the one he meant, I was watching TV in full screen earlier from a 200KB upload speed, not brilliant quality but not that bad considering.

Could you use the property dynamic_encoding/audio_bitrate_kbps=32 ?
That would be pretty cool if you could cause I would rather downscale the audio to give more bandwidth to the video stream. And if you could use this property could you take down even farther say like 8kbps?
