Thanks for Placeshifter!!

Before leaving on vacation this past weekend, I powered off my MVP and took the laptop.

In the hotel room, I was able to connect to the internet over the wireless and run placeshifter. I had full access to all of the movies on my server and the kids got to lay in the hotel bed and watch a movie streamed from my house.

that was really, really cool! And I didn't even have to cart around a bunch of DVDs!

I love the placeshifter aswell... I rarely go down to the entertainment room to watch anything anymore. Even thinking about getting a dedicated laptop for my room..... Hmm i will need more license

Forgot to mention the other cool thing...

I was able to watch my local news live from vacation! That was awesome.

SO, I have a question for SageTV.

Since the Extender (MVP) uses a placeshifter client, can I use that remotely? ie, over the internet instead of on the same LAN as the server?

The MVP and Placeshifter use the same extender client licenses, but I think thats where the similarity ends. The MVP can only decode MPEG2 streams, and that is just too huge of data to placeshift.
