Michael,
I wanted it to be finished last week, but didn't have much spare time to work on it. Nevertheless finished the STV plugin import code. Lost some time trying to get new slim server version (6.5b2) working, but that didn't work out. Fortunately they fixed it quickly and 6.5b3 does work properly with this plugin. Read on the slim server forum they are expecting to release 6.5 on the september 18th , so it would be great if I could release it somewher in the coming week.
Still two things on the list, compatibility with timer plugin (since, I think it was you reported that the current webradio plugin is conflicting with it) . The other thing is completing showing track details.

Thanks for the update Chirs; and, thanks for remembering about the timer plugin conflict. Good luck!

Hi.

After reading some of the posts here, I am confused if Simple Web Radio works or does not work with the MVP (Media Extenders)?

joe123, koelec indicated that it would not. That is the case for the existing Web Radio player and the new plugging that will work with the Slimserver. It would be nice if the upcomming SageTV release adds some kind of support to make that possible.

Very nice program. Is it able to save the playing music to disk with the proper file name?

Help Please

After enjoying and testing simple web radio for several months on my Bedroom server, I decided to install it in my living room.
I installed the same release version as my bedroom server but no matter what I do I get the error message "cant find webradio.jar or wrong version"
Both boxes have java 1.50.6. I tried reimporting several times.. I even went back and tried from the original xml file that comes with sage. No matter what I do, it loads the web radio screen but then that error message appears on the bottom. Any ideas?
Thanks

Could you please turn on debug logging and post the sagetv-0.txt file so I can see if all required jar files have been properly loaded.
To turn on debug logging put the following line in the sagetv.properties file after you've shutdown sagetv.
debug_logging=TRUE

The new slim player pluging is not able to record anything, it's just for playback of files or streams. Maybe the slim server for which this pluging acts as a client is able to do such things.

Well,... it has taken much more time to complete then I could have imagined.
But it was worth it, because it is so much better than two weeks ago.
I really want to finish this release this weekend (wife and kids have started complaining), but time is running out, only have tomorrow night...
Currently creating release notes and there still one issue left I want solved.
There's an issue with the system going to standby, actually it prevents the system to suspend automatically .

Yes, that's right and hopefully this plugin will be popular and triggers something at Sage to support internet streams natively, so that MVP and placeshifter users can enjoy it too.

Happy news for non-MVP/placeshifter users is that I will release SlimPlayer 1.0 tomorrow night. Finished it today, currently writing installation notes.
The SlimPlayer plugin is a client to the slimserver and to be able to run it you need to have the slimserver installed on your system.
To have a quick start when SlimPlayer plugin can be downloaded you may already install the slimserver software version 6.5 from here
http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html and play around with the softsqueeze player (which is part of the distribution) to get a feel for what you will get through SageTV. The SlimPlayer plugin is essentially a wrapper around softsqueeze. After installation of the slimserver, softsqueeze can be started from the slimserver's web interface.

Ahhh... But it does...

SageTVPlayer.exe is simply Mplayer in disguise!

Mplayer can play shoutcast, icecast, etc... Simply have Sagetvplayer (have Sage call the file... ) and you should be able to get most streams!

Here is a simple .bat file that will show you what I am referring to!

It's in the Sage Directory...

The info is not directly related to calling the intended file via a command (like the .bat file...) but rather that Sage CAN play URL's and web streams from WITHIN Sage...

Sagetvplayer.exe is part of version 6 and is used for playback of video file types the sage mediaplayer cannot handle, like flash video, used by the new function Google video. This function downloads a video file (mostly flash) from the internet and starts playback of the local file. There's a new SageTV api call Watch() and it will playback content of all supported types, but not streams. It's true that the used player can handle streams, but the sagetv api won't let you.

Surely the streams are buffered to a file somewhere, could you not playback from this buffer file?

I'm really talking over my head on this, but it was just a thought.

No, streaming is like this. The music is on a server somewhere on the internet and is streamed 24/7 bit by bit to all listeners live, i.e. like broadcasting radio. Receiving a stream is very different from downloading a file and starting playback of that file.

Will this extension allow me to play streams listed here:

http://www.wdetfm.org/listenlive/

I note that the Windows Media stream is actually the best quality, so that would be an ideal choice.

Thanks,

Ken
