Question MVP flashing SageTV logo screen

I just got a new MVP from SageTV bundle pack. It gets an IP, finds the server, gets past Loading Software..... but hangs at the SageTV logo page stating its booting up, Please wait..... for a second, then goes blank for a second, then SageTV logo again, then blank and so on and so on till I unplug it.

Server version is 5.0.3RC, no firewall, tried with no service mode.

I tried unpluging it for 5 minutes to clear mvp ram.

I turned on debug logging on the server and get this over and over in the log file.

Question

Looks like the problem is with java.

This SageTV server is a Windows Server 2003 and its running java 1.5.0_06 as seen in the SageTV Info screen.

My server doesn't have a sound card in it, since I don't watch SageTV on it. Does the Extender require the server to have a sound card?

Any thoughts at all??

Yeah, the MVP is apparently getting an address that SageTV thinks (or it is) on a different subnet then what the server is running on. If you post the whole log, then in the beginning it'll show what IP the server is binding itself to.

The server requires authentication from extenders that aren't on the same subnet as itself (i.e. the Placeshifter). There's also a property which turns on authentication all the time, but it's off by default.

Can you paste the output from doing:

ipconfig /all

when you're at a command prompt?

Thanks.

The WAN connection is my VPN connection to my work network.

I have Routing and Remote Access enabled and have an automated VPN tunnel for IPs of my work network.

It looks like the miniserver is using this IP. Can I specify which IP to use?

same deal

I am having the same problem. I configured the MVP on the wire and it worked fine. Now I am trying the wireless, I see the server through the MVP but it is just flashing on the Sagetv logo screen.

I just installed the latest SageTV for my server, the server is enabled as is the MVP. I tried deleting the clients folder and have rebooted the server many times as well as power cycled the MVP. Any help would be sweet, I'd hate to have to run a 100" or so CAT5, hehe. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I am new to the forums and I have been using SageTV for about 5 months and I love it. Name is Ethan.

I am getting Java errors, I downgraded my java to 1.4.2 and still got errors. I have been saving my sagetv logs.

sagetv_0 is before the java downgrade and sagetv_1 is after

Ethan,

Your problem looks to be different from mine. My miniserver was using a different IP than the Sage Server.

I opened a problem report with Frey and the said that my problem would be fixed in 5.1

If you don't get any help here, you should open a problem with Frey through their support link, so maybe your problem can be addressed in the new version.

Im having the same issues, but with the Wireless MediaMVP. SageTV and wireless are on the same subnet. But this just happens when I try to sit the unit more than 10m off the AP... near the AP seems to work fine

Hope to see 5.1 with this issue fixed

This can happen if the Wireless MVP doesn't find the network after it restarts inside the SageTV extender system. Is the signal level displayed in the Hauppauge setup menu low?

I'm having the same issue with my wireless MVP. In another thread Narflex looked at my debug log and saw that the wireless connection was being dropped after a few minutes. He suggested setting the screensaver timeout to a low number since the MVP actually talks to the server (creating network traffic, which seems to keep the connection alive) to draw the Sage logo all over the screen. I've tried this and it works. Maybe it is worth trying on the wired MVP as well?

My signal strength is 4 "bars". I forget the dB figure right now. I have two APs in my house; one uses channel 1 and the other channel 11. If both are on, the screensaver timeout must be set to 1 minute to keep the connection alive. If only the AP which talks to the MVP is on I can set the screensaver timeout to 3 or 4 minutes. This tells me that signal strength and the overall quality of the wireless connection has a lot to do with this problem.

Narflex told me he suspected my networking gear was misbehaving. I'm using a D-Link DWL-G700AP Access Point. If all of us are having the same problem using different networking gear we should file a bug report.

Yeah but this issue is not related to timeouts, since it wont even connect, I cant not even get to the menu.

wireless

I am running a Linksys WRT54GS Router. My MVP is one floor up from the router, but my signal through the MVP setup is Good (4 bars).

Looking at my log files the only error I see has to do with java...

Similar Problem

I'm having a similar problem with the constant flashing of the green SageTV screen on my Media MVPs. I have one first-gen MVP, 2 second generation. Restarting the SageTV service fixes the issue temporarily, until the next hiccup.

While this flashing is occuring, it seems that the MVP is constantly attempting to reconnect to the server on port 31099... I see a ton of recently closed connections coming from the flashing MVP. There have been occasions where two of the MVPs won't start, but one will (and it's the second-gen box, not the first gen box).

Network is all wired (no wireless MVPs), server is Windows XP SP2 running SageTV 5.0.4.92, Java 1.5.0_04.

Is anybody interested in seeing debug information from this? Let me know what you'd like to see.

Edit: Also...this started when I installed 5.0.3.
