What i ended up doing is pulling the file up on my mac and just did a install
that was almost like it. the only thing i might not have gotten right is the use flags setting. Silly me not to think it wouldn't load because i am useing /dev/sda instead of /dev/hda! thanks andy;>

I seem to be having a similar problem. The client will work for awhile, but then when i go back to the main menu, I cannot access anymore submenus or the program guide/live tv.

Dont see much in the logs yet, but i will keep looking.

I've had issues with bad burns on my Gentoo live cd screwing up the install. I suggest you burn at the lowest speed you can and use a program with the ability to verify the burned files. I find using a lovely plextor and cheap o matic disks my failure rate is about 50%... Need better disks.

Tuner assistance please

Hi

Thank you:
Thank you to all at SageTV for getting this new version out the door. The updated capabilities and the ability to install on top of other versions of Linux (to meet clients custom needs) should increase SageTV penetration significantly.

Background:
I have been using Linux (SuSE 10.1) on my desktop and am learning it for use as a base for NetWare on my company server. I have never had more fits than I am experienceing trying to create a good Gentoo disk and good installation. I have a CD that boots fine and I can start the install but it breaks when it can't read a package. I will try one more time today and then do a SuSE install (as a base) if I have to.

Question:
I am looking for recommendations for tuner cards that can do both standard (NTSC) and high def off the air (ATSC) reception. A few days ago I tried to install a Hauppauge 150 card on SuSE 10.1 (which I know does NTSC only) and it went fine except that 'xine' was missing. I went to the web site, pulled in the needed file, opened it and tried to run make. That failed with complaints about what appear to be missing right parentheses! I have noticed that a couple of forum members are using Fusion HDTV 5 cards - how are these working and what did you need to get them working.

Thank you all in advance

I'm pretty limited in linux experience, but I know the ivtv drivers provide the support for the hauppage cards under Gentoo. And support for those cards is built in when you use the Sage install script.

Is anyone running their sage server using an x86_64 kernel?

I'm trying to run amd64 but am having problems. Luckily I'm already using Sage for Windows so I'm not in a rush to get it set up. I'd like to eventually get it running, though. Especially since I just spent $80 on it

I already had Gentoo set up on another partition on the computer, so I started from there and manually installed the items in sagesetup.sh. I've been using Gentoo for about a year so I have some background in getting it up and running and it was fairly smooth. http://www.gentoo.org and http://www.gentoo-wiki.com are invaluable resources. So far here's where I'm at:
  1. I tried using the amd64 version of Sun's JRE 1.5.0_06. Sage was getting an UnsatisfiedLinkError when trying to load libSage.so and then it exited. I tried emerging the emulation libraries (emul-linux-x86-baselibs, emul-linux-x86-compat, emul-linux-x86-xlibs, and emul-linux-x86-soundlibs) but that didn't fix it. So I uninstalled the amd64 JRE and installed the x86 JRE. Sage will at least start now.
  2. However, when I start X and let it start Sage, the client cannot connect to the server. The server will start if I start it manually, and the client will then connect when I start it. I'm guessing the sleep in the Sage X session needs to be increased, but haven't tried that yet.
  3. I'm running the 2.6.16-r7 gentoo-sources kernel, and the 0.4.5 ivtv version that Sage has on their website will not run against a > 2.6.15 kernel, or so the installation script says. I emerged the latest 0.4.2 version, and I was able to set up my tuners, but when I try to watch TV it fails. I think the message is something about an audio problem, which doesn't surprise me because I've had trouble getting alsa to work with the SPDIF output on the video card. I don't have the Linux version running right now so I don't have the exact message. I thought I had 2 channel working at least, but Sage still complains.
  4. Neither the Hauppauge nor Harmony remotes are working, but I haven't even worked on that yet other than emerging lirc.
  5. I copied the Wiz.bin and a couple of recordings over from my NTFS partitions that Sage Win used, hoping the paths for recordings would be updated in the database. They were updated, but incorrectly. It ended up as /opt/sagetv/server/E:\SageTV\<Recording>.mpg. The E:\SageTv path is where I store recordings in Sage Win. I have a suspicion that the Linux version is not searching for backslashes in the filename.
  6. I got nielm's webserver up and running though
That's essentially a quick brain dump of my progress.

Just a thought, you are trying to run a 32-bit jar with 64-bit JRE.

My guess, no workie.

Nice summary. I am trying to get Sage up on fc4 x86_64. I installed the compatbility libs and the 32bit JRE. Sage runs and I can connect to it with a remote Sage client.

I can import media and have it served to the client. However when I try to setup the capture card (pvr 150) I get the audio compression error.

My guess is that something in the Sage JNI library wrt IVTV is not 64 bit friendly.

problems

I have been have nothing but problems so far! maybe someone can help me
out? I first installed in the default fashion, but since that snapshot uses the 2.15.3 kernel my network card would not work! so i figured i would use the stage 3 tarball and the latest snapshot online. now my network card works. next problem was ivtv 0.4.5 dose not work with a kernel ver later than 2.6.15 so i installed 0.6.2 and got my pvr-250 to work. as of yet my sound dose not work due to the fact you need to have alsa 1.0.11 final installed ,still trying to figure that out but i am real close! The last big problem is a SERIOUS one when i watch live tv i can't see my menus. all they do is flash like 20 times a second <until time out which is set at 5 sec> if i move the mouse back and forth really quickly i can make out some of the menu , I have the same problem if i enable video menu style: background <now i cant see my program guide or main menu unless i move my mouse back and forth like 50 times a second and when i stop moving my mouse the menu disappears making it impossible to chose a function! PLEASE HELP

my system is:

asus v8n-vm csm motherboard with onboard nvidia 6150
2 gigs of gskill ddr500 @480
amd 3700+ @ 2.669 mild overclock 469mhz
250 gig wd sata harddrive

fyi, my purpose is for running sage as a server.

I am *not* even going to try to set it up for client purposes, mvps are much better for that purpose or even PC clients.

My linux goal is collocation of all drives/ array storage in one server chassis.

So far I have the server software running on FC5 x86 on a demo server. The problem is my primary server is x86_64 and currently sage has issues with x86_64.

So the decision I have to make is should I re-install x86 on my primary server.... my opterons won't be very happy

well... i switched to using the s-vid input on the 250 and the internal tuner on the 150 and all seems well... i wonder what about the 250's internal tuner sagev5 doesn't like.

fyi for folk that may experience the same issue.

I think there isn't any card which does both hdtv and hardware compression of sdtv.

Could you run xvinfo and let us know the output. This seems to be an overlay issue.
