Can't update music library

I'm having trouble adding some new albums to the SageTV music library. I've tried to rescan import folders but the new albums won't show up. I've tried linking straight to the folders of the new albums but still nothing happens. I've also completely remove the import folders, restarted and tried re-importing but still no luck. The albums are MP3's and are no different to the 120 other albums in my library. In my experience with SageTV the music library update function only seems to work when it wants to. I'm currently using version 5.0.2 and this problem seems to come and go with various releases but workarounds from previous releases aren't helping this time.

I'm curious -- you said you removed the lib paths & restarted, but did you leave the import paths intact & then restart? I ran into a rescan issue the other day, but a restart fixed it. If restart works, but the rescan option doesn't, then it needs to be looked into some more.

Finally sorted this out. It appears that MP3's done in iTunes won't import into version 5.0.2. I re-ripped using WMP11 with the same settings and SageTV had no trouble importing new albums. Very strange indeed.

I found that when using iTunes, you have to convert the id3 tags to version 2.3 for Sage to recognize them. It seems that the latest versions of iTunes may save them as 2.4 and I don't think Sage recognizes anything after 2.3.

Is there a way to wipe out your entire music listings in sage and start from scratch?

  • Remove import library path
  • trigger refresh
  • wait a minute
  • Verify no imported stuff (or wait some more)
  • Re-Add import library path
  • trigger refresh
  • wait a minute (or until the disk stops thrashing)
