Sage Quality / PVR500 / NVidia
For the longest time I had real quality issues with my Hauppauge 500 Tuner. Not just the "crosshatches" that many users also reported but also it just did not look as "clear and clean" as I would have liked (I suppose I could have tweaked it more with the histogram but that would not take care of the crosshatces and it's a lot easier to just drop in an Nvidia DualTV card).
Well - after only a few days of use of the NVidia dual tuner card, it was very clear (no pun here) that it is much better than the PVR500. In fact, I reduced the quality from DVD Standard down to great and it still looks very clear. It looks better in Great quality 2gb/hour than my pvr500 in dvd standard (3.2/gb hour). In fact, it even looks pretty good on my 27" TV in the Good (1.4 gb/hour) mode. It doesn't seem to degragate as much in the lower quality modes but I just could not get the PVR 500 to work well on a consistent basis in any mode for me. I have now set my defaults to 2 gb/hour.
The biggest problem with the NVidia card is that you may only have one in your computer or there are conflicts. Otherwise, this card has me smiling. See a sample frame in 2gb/hour I captured.
