Sage Linux Server AMD k6-366

I have an old but very stable Shuttle mobo currently acting as a server running Mandrake. I would like to convert it into a Sage Linux server. It is very week in the cpu department. A k6-366 is the equivalent of a P2 300.

My plans are the following:
Server:
Add a dual PVR 500 and connect 2 SDTV Bell Express vu tuners.
System has a promise IDE card with 2 HD attached
(is Gentoo setup to auto configure that)?

Clients:
I will purchase an MVP and hook it up to an ordinary 32inch TV on S-video

I currently have 1 SageTV media center (Windows XP, Athlon XP3200 capturing on 1 SDTV tuner). Its hooked up to my 46in RPTV by DVI using 720p resolution.
I would like to convert that Server/Client into a client only. It is important that I maintain the 720p DVI output that I worked hard to configure. Can the Media center be easily downgraded to a Client without reconfiguring and reinstalling?
Obviously I will move the tuner to the Sage Linux server.

So I will have 1 MVP client, 1 Windows XP client both running off the Linux server.

Thats my plan anyway. Do you think it will work?

I can't see any problems on the hardware side. And you can easily test the install with the clients and see how they work. One thing to be aware of is that via chipsets from years past are known to have issues when the pci bus has a lt of traffic. I think the only way to really test it is to try.

Does the Gentoo distro have built in kernal support for my ATA IDE promise card? My mobo is only ATA 33 with 20gb max hd support- therefore I added the IDE card?

The best way to know for sure is to try it. Personally, I'd be surprised if it didn't.

The only major concern I have about this is that I wonder if the southbridge on the motherboard can handle the massive I/O on the PCI bus reliably.

Thanks all for your replies. I came to the decision that switching over to Linux at this point would be a waste since I already have the Windows Sage Media center. It turns out that I need an entire new licence for the Linux server (no discount or freebees there)

Anyway, instead I ordered a HapuugeMVP and Win TV PVR-500 and will stream accross my LAN to the MVP hooked up to the other TV.

This way I can still keep my Mandrake server as-is. I can still user the Mandrake box hardrive over the network though, so that will give me more storage.
