Many, many, many episodes of favorites

I attempted to setup a Favorite for the West Wing tonight for my wife (first time she's agreed to watch something on SageTV instead of the DirecTivo). Unfortuantely, repeats are shown on a couple of channels. SageTV ends up showing that it's going to record like 20 episodes/week, even though I mark it to only record first-runs (because I'm using XMLTV?). Is there any way at all to make Sage only record a Favorite on a certain channel (like a season pass on Tivo)?

Also, is there a way to tell Sage NOT to record something that is already scheduled? The Tonight Show is on at 11:35pm and a repeat of an older episode is on at 2:35am. I want to manually tell it to not record the 2:35am episode, but I don't see a way to do that (unless marking it as Watched will do that).

Thanks much!

I am in the same boat...

XMLTV is not perfect by any means and is not able to extract whether a show is new show or repeat (West Wing and Law and Order are two examples). If XMLTV can not definitively determine a show is a repeat, it marks it as new.

I too would like to see a way to tell sage not to record a specific instance (or stop a favorites recording that's in process for that matter).

I will have to try clicking on Watched to see what happens.

I tried marking a scheduled recording as Watched, and it disappeared after I moved to another selection. This helps to manually clear repeats, but it would be nice not to worry about 30 episodes of Tech TV, 20 episodes of West Wing, etc.... each week.

This is a problem related to the guide data being provided by the XMLTV plugin. This problem can also be experienced using the Zap2it data depending on the quality of the programming data supplied by a network. MTV is a huge problem for scheduling favorites because they never give you enough unique information to determine if you've "watched" a particular episode.

With version 2 we will have more recording options, that should help you with some of the problems. In the meantime you may have to do manual recordings for the shows that are causing you problems.

How do you setup a manual recording? That would work for some shows that never change time slots (like The Tonight Show).

It'd be great if I could even limit it to only record on a certain channel. That would fix a lot of my over-recording problem.

SageTV can't do manual recordings in this version (not sure if 2.0 can either). That is what SageRecorder is for but I do wish you could do it.

SageTV 2.0 sounds like it will allow you to limit a favorite to a specific channel.

Yes, I was referring to when you highlight a show and hit record (or right-click). Then you can adjust the start/stop time if necessary.

I think he was asking if you could for example record channel 2 every monday from 8-9. I don't know of any way to do this in SageTV so if there is let us know . If he is not asking about that then, well, Dan and SHS are right .

I'm working on functionality like that right now for version 2.0.

Oh man thats what confused me the last two weeks. Trying to figure out why would I install Sage Recorder on one of my machines. I could not see any reason to do so at all. Because I was under the assumtion that SageTV can record shows for you either automatically, by schedule you set or manually.

So we need a separate pvr250 card along with Sage recorder on same machine to record programed shows in the back ground.
