PureVideo, SPDIF and Chaintech AV-710 loosing audio

After installing Purevideo and setting up the audio and video decoder to be the prefered ones, I configured the audio decoder to use SPDIF cable connected to my Pioneer receiver.

When I play my TV recordings they look great and sound great. Receiver display says "stereo".

When I play ripped DVDs they look great and sound amazing. Receiver display says "dolby digital".

However, when I go back and try to play the TV recordings they still look great but I get no audio at all ! At this point I will only have audio when playing the DVDs. Only after I restart Sage I can get audio on my TV recording again.

Can anybody give me any tip on solving this issue ? I feel I am close to perfection ...


My settings:
Mpeg2 Video decoder filter = default
Audio Renderer = default
MPEG2 Audio Decoder filter = default

Have you made sure that AC3 Filter is set to "Prefer Other Decoder"? What exactly is the preferred decoder in Windows (MS DECCHECK)? Onboard Audio is disabled?

Yes, I have. After I set "Prefer Other Decoder", when I open WMP tools>options>DVD>advanced I get the NVidia audio decoder properties dialog.

DECCHECK only displays video decoders. It says my prefered video decoder is NVidia video decoder.

I don't use a soundcard, so I'm not sure. Have you tried disabling the Chaintech and enabling motherboard sound (switch the cable) to see if the same problem occurs? Does the Chaintech run any of it's own software?

I haven't tried disabling the Chaintech and enabling motherboard sound yet. I will eventually do that if I don't find someone who had this configuration working. Right now the built-in sound is disabled in the BIOS and I'm trying to avoid installing the motherboard drivers for the sound.

Does anyone have a Chaintech and be able to listen to DVD in sorround and then listen to recorded TV all in Sage without having to restart it like me?

Not sure if you've solved your problem by now but I have this configuration w/o this problem.

If you have Purevideo why even use the AC3 Filter? Just set Purevideo audio-->SPDIF and be done with it. When you use the AC3 Filter in SPDIF mode its just a pass through and as far as I know provides no value. Let Purevideo pass SPDIF to your receiver itself.

Also I find everything works better if I specify the Nvidia decoder whether its the system default or not. Same for the DVD settings.

For me Purevideo has no issues going from a DVD 5.1 <->HD 5.1 <-> 2.1 <->2 ch.

As an aside using the chaintech with the asio plugin (bit perfect) you can also play DTS audio through Sage with the spiffy Winamp plugin.
