Clock out of whack
I've got a weird problem with the time being exactly 4 hrs out of whack. I'm in EDT, which is GMT-4.
If the system time and locale are correct, then Sage is 4 hrs early. If I change Sage's locale to be GMT, the clock is correct but the EPG is 4 hrs out. The only way to get it working right is to set the system (Linux) localtime to GMT, set the clock to GMT, and Sage's timezone to mine (EDT). This is very odd... is the code overriding the system Locale? How can I correct this... it's a PITA to have the system clock skewed. Arawak |

Linux systems always have the hardware set to gmt. Then you tell the os what your timezone is and you are set. I know its odd, but thats the way the linux dev's set it up. I think this screws up EVERYONE who's doing a initial install.

No, you can choose whether the hw clock is set to local or UTC in /etc/conf.d/clock. Ideally, a server would be set to UTC, but on machines that dual boot with Windoze you'd need to set the clock to be local.
The system is set up correctly -- I've installed literally hundreds of Gentoo systems, and getting the system to have the correct time wasn't the issue for me. The problem in this case is Sage, not Linux. The JVM should pick up the system time and set itself correctly, but it appears that they programmatically skew the JVM or use a Locale with an offset of 4hrs. The only way I have fould so far to get Sage to show both the correct time, and the correct EPG for that time is to set my clock forward 4hrs. I admit I haven't spent much time playing with it though... Sage works well enough that its not itchy enough to scratch :-) When I figure it out I'll post, unless someone beats me to it (in which case I hope *they* post). Arawak |

Time drifts
I can't seem to keep Sagetv from drifting..
I added ntp and the server is fine .. its always correct.. To Correct time drifting (temporary). I delete and add videosource.. and thus get a new EPG feed. Why does'nt Sagetv sync with server time? |

Arawak, you make some good points in your post.
oddjob, I think the answer is that the linux edition is very new yet. They are still working out all the kinks.

Sagetv Time moves quickly
I noticed Sagetv is clocking a minute , every 30 seconds . Sagetv is not using server time to sync.
I find no way to stop it. I've since shutdown my server until beta v5 comes out. If beta v5 does'nt fix problem. I will have to give up and go back to windows version. |

Customer Update
Linux fan.
I was questioning my recent move to linux (Gentoo) OEM version. But I must say, I'm extremely pleased. I highly recommend Linux OEM and MediaMVP. It works great for me.! The picture is fantastic and there's no interuptions. I've been a Sagetv user since July 2004 and think they have a great product. |
