Pay EPG?

I don't remember seeing this note when I bought my sage tv bundle recently, though may have been there but overlooked it. If SageTV does plan on charging, which appears probably will, how much will it cost do you think and what else would they provide? Would we still be in control or controlled?

**Currently, SageTV provides electronic programming guide service (the "EPG Service") to End Users in the U.S. and Canada at no charge. SageTV reserves the right to discontinue provision of the EPG Service or to separately charge End Users for provision of the EPG Service.

Where do you get the idea that they probably will?

I read this as Sage is just covering themselves. If Zap2It (Tribune) started charging a much higher rate to them for listings, or discontinued listings all-together, Sage would need to take some action (which may wind up meaning they'll start charging, or discontinue it and make the users provide their own).

I doubt we'd ever see that though.

From what I understand, Zap2It is very reasonable on their charges. Heck, I could even be using XMLTV to download them if necessary, and doing that for free through my personal Zap2It labs account.

Don't worry jeffpc, if Sage ever did have to start charging for listings, I'm sure there'd be several folks here that would figure out cheaper (and/or free) alternative ways of loading EPG data (several of these efforts have already taken place for non-US/Canada listings).

That is in there just in case the cost to them suddenly changes and they need to charge for it. If that happens SageTV won't be the only one changing to that model.

EDIT: Dang, APerry beat me to it.
