HD frustration...

Struggling with getting HD flying on my system - I configured another Sage server with an HD capture card, got it working as a network encoder (although there's an open bug about not being able to direct recording output to specific locations based in encoder used).

So - I want to record my favorites in HD and SD both when possible - I have to do this since only have one client capable of HD playback, the other two are MVPs and can't handle it. I only get over the air HD with 4 stations so there's only 8 or 9 shows that fall into this category. As noted from some other posts out here, I created two sets of favorites for each and forced one favorite to use the SD channel and one to use the HD channel instead. Dandy. However, when I look at my upcoming recordings, it only shows one device recording any one show - not both. Nothing I do short of manually forcing each show to record in the program guide clears this condition.

So... I'm not sure what other folks were saying they were doing - I must be missing something basic here. How do I go about this?

Also, the merit weights don't seem to work as they should - I weighted the HD receivers to be 10 and the SD receivers (Hauppauge 150s) to be 1 - yet the selection of the SD vs HD station in the upcoming guide does not reflect that - it usually picks the SD option. Not sure what the deal is with that either but I'm trying to make it moot by forcing a record in both formats.

If'n anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it.

I have the same issue and according SageTV support this is not a bug.
I basically setup favorites for both and then go through the guide to force both to record by manually recording the HD channels.

Ironically if I set up a favorite without selecting a specicifc channel and noticed once that both actually got recorded or appeared to be recording, but then later I went and checked and only one recording stayed...it looked like SageTV went back and deleted the file.

Sorry I can't be any help...I suggest contacting support and complaining about this flaw in the software.

This has been discussed in a couple of other threads too. I agree a major downfall of the recording logic. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to implement either, but what do I know about recording logic.

hmmm... annoying.

I think probably my best option is to run the 2nd Sage as it's own server instead of as a remote network encoder and just get to those shows through a share/UNC media directory on the main sage server the clients are connected to - not nearly as slick and a pain to keep the favorites and such managed but this also gets around the bug that keeps me from forcing the record location for the HD devices.

I'll open a bug for it anyway (I'm sure they're getting tired of hearing from me by now).
