Trouble installing
With the Linux OEM version, seems after I run the Key Activation script and let it run for a few minutes it starts giving errors that it can't write files to disk. It then goes through and asks to adjust sound and then change the UNIX password and reboots. On reboot several files cannot be found. My machine is a pentium 1.8 with 526mb of RAM and PVR-250 with 35 GB hard drive.
Should I re-adjust the root partition? It is showing as 35 gigs tho. Thanks for any input. G Last edited by Gblaze40; 03-16-2006 at 10:57 AM. |

I have had this problem and just burned a different disc at a slower speed. Sony CD-RW's have worked well for me.

Didn't do it
I've tried 3 different CD's at lowest speed possible using joliet and both the latest ISO's and still no luck, it just fails the install. I'm curious, when doing the defpartition.sh why does it give hda1 3gb? and it will try to install to hda1, isn't this to small?
Still trying... |

The partition is large enough. Is the error you get about bad sectors on the cdrom or something else?

too quick
Unfortunately the error goes by to quickly. I've tried using a pipe to less and it hasn't worked for me.

confirmed it
I tried going through and manually installing each tar file as the install.sh script had it, when I tried to install the linux tar ball half way through it started to write files and said "no space left on device" and then ends.

You can try running the install from another machine via ssh, then you can see the error messages (and cut and paste the key... could they make it any longer :roll
1. Boot up off the CD, to the prompt. Do ifconfig to ensure your networking was set up correctly, and note the IP of your box. 2. set the root password with the command passwd . This is temporary and will be gone when you reboot. 3. start up sshd with /etc/init.d/sshd start . You will see a couple messages as it calculates some keys, then you should be good to go. 4. Login via ssh from another box on the network using the root account and the password you set in step 2. At this point you can follow the install instructions. You can open a second session to investigate things like partion usage (df -k). Arawak |

Wait 20 minutes after you burn the CD before you use it. I swear....it quite often can make a difference. It's the only thing that's fixed this problem for me when I've come across it.

Thanks for the help
I appreciate the assistance, I finaly tried a different cdrom drive and it worked. The only difference was the original cdrom that was giving me problems was a newere 40x cd-rw, the one that worked was an old 4x speed cdrom that I had for around 6 years now. I had burned the cd-rom on at 4x previously.
Again thanks for the assistance, it is much appreciated! |
