Problems with SageTV and PVR-350
Hello everyone, I hope someone here can help.
I recently purchased SageTV version 1.4.10. I am using the Hauppauge PVR-350 with the latest drivers version 21199. I also have WinTV version 21126 installed as well. I am running Windows XP SP1 with all of the current MS updates including DirectX version 9. I am running an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ on a MicroATX MB. The entire system is very stable. Everything seems to work correctly with WinTV and Snapstream, however, SageTV does not seem to be working correctly. Here is what is happening: First I boot the computer and SageTV starts full screen. I then go to Live TV and all is still fine. I change channels for a few seconds (sometimes longer than others) and wham, up pops this error: There was a problem with time control in DirectShow. Failed restarting the DirectShow filter graph in the paused state after switching files. ErrCode=0x8007045d Any ideas? Once I get this error, I am still able to go back to the main menu, but my Live TV never works again until reboot. If I don't clear the error, the system will blue screen and reboot sooner or later. As I stated before, I don't have this problem with WinTV or Snapstream 3.0. I purchased SageTV because it is much more user friendly and has many more features than any of the other packages currently available. I just need to get this problem resolved so I can start using my new creation! I have attached my properties file to this message. I will generate another message and attach the error message. Thank you for any help. Rich |

Go into Setup->Detailed Setup.
For Video, select Overlay for the Video Renderer and select Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge for the Video Decoder. For Audio, select Intervideo NonCSS Audio Decoder for Hauppauge for the Audio Decoder. That should resolve the problem, if not, let me know.

It worked! Now have DVD problem...
Thank you for the advice, it worked and solved my issue with the TV channels. Now I have a new problem with DVD playback. When the DVD Video Decoder setup is set to default or Intervideo Video Decoder, the dvd plays back for approximately 1 minute and then freezes. When I set it to the Intervideo NonCSS driver I get this error:
There was an error with DVD playback. Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed. Can't play back this DVD Videodisk. Any ideas on how I can get this fixed? SageTV seems to have some great features, but it does seem to be a bit picky on how it is set up. I'm an engineer, but it does seem that Snapstream is a bit easier to set up and configure, although it doesn't have all of the advanced features of SageTV I didn't see anything in the manual on setting the TV decoder to use the NonCSS driver, but it did work. Could you shed a little insight on how and why this solves the problem? I am guessing that it has something to do with the PVR-350 card that I am using. Thank you! Rich |

Rich,
The Intervideo decoder setting is something that should have happened automatically the first time you ran SageTV if the Hauppauge software was installed. Also, check out the thread "Easy Performance Increase for Hauppauge Users" in the GeneralDiscussion forum. It should give you a nice increase in video quality you can't get with Snapstream. DVDs can't work with the nonCSS decoders....as DVDs are CSS encrypted. You need to have a DVD decoder installed to use the DVD features of SageTV (something Snapstream also can't do).

Thank you, that did seem to work.
Now I am really having some problems. I saw on Hauppauge's website yesterday that they updated their drivers for the PVR-350. I downloaded them and followed their update procedure for installing them. After updating the drivers I rebooted and SageTV started up. Now, the Live TV button does not work, and none of my show that are set to record show up in the recording schedule. How can I fix this? I don't want to have to reinstall and reconfigure all of my channels and also the XMLTV stuff that I modified. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again, Rich |

Rich,
I had exactly the same problem (along with many, many others lately). There are two options. The bad option, and the only one that worked for me, was to uninstall and then reinstall SageTV. You need to make sure you either manually delete the wiz.* and Sage.properties* files befor reinstalling or install to a different directory. You'll lose everything, of course, and have to re-setup your channels, favorites, etc. The less drastic option to try first is to shut down SageTV and look in your Sage.properties file for an entry called "mmc/ignore_encoders" and see if somehow your encoder got added to the list of ones to ignore. If it has, then remove your encoder from the list. Then restart Sage and see if it begins to work. I know, it's annoying as hell. It doesn't happen every time you change drivers, but often enough to drive one insane. -Watter |

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, it sucks that I may have to reinstall and reconfigure everything that I have done to this point. You would think that SageTV would keep its settings even if you update the drivers for the hardware.
On another note, has anyone ever used myHTPC as a frontend to drive the TV capabilities of SageTV? Just curious if anyone has done this successfully and how. Thanks, Rich |

Can you still see your card in the setup wizard? Sage does keep the settings during a hardware upgrade so something must have gone wrong.

No, I do not see the card listed in the setup wizard. Also, when I start SageTV it takes me to the configure screen each time now.

Well the good news is that the "mmc/ignore_encoders" fix should work then. The bad news is that any recordings you had may be in the errant folder and only be accesible through the library when you move them out.

I will take a look at it when I get home.

Yes! That solved the problem. Luckily, I zipped up the entire directory before updating the PVR-350 drivers. I unzipped the directory contents, modified the properties file so the card was not ignored, and ran the app. Viola! Everything worked as it did before updating the drivers, and my channels and recording schedule were all still there.
