7300GS vs. X1300
So here is the story, I bought a computer awhile back to be my new main rig, and currently still using the intergrated video because I was waiting for the 7300GS's to come out (yes it has a PCI-E slot). Now that they are out, and the numbers have been released, it seems as tho the Radeon X1300 is actually beating the 7300GS and Nvidia's response is that it is not supposed to be compared to the X1300 but rather the X1300LE that is going to be released. So here is my question, which one to pick up? Without really meaning to be, I have been an Nvidia fan for a long time going all the way back to geforce2's (before that I was a 3dfx fan but now they are gone) and so I naturally am pulled towards buying the 7300GS, but if the price isn't a whole lot better and I can get the X1300, maybe that is the route I should go? But then again aren't the Catalyst drivers buggy? I have no idea what to choose!!!!! I will not be hooking it up via DVI but rater than Component breakout cables.
What do you guys think? I am not worried about gaming as I do minimal gaming, but I do want it to be future proof in that if I end up wanting to pull the card and drop it into another HTPC client, that it can do HDTV.

What do you plan to do with it? From the sound of it, it's probably more of a difference in benchmark results, which (IMHO) far too many people use as their sole criteria for buying decisions. Do you plan on gaming? Just DVD/TV viewing? Watch any HD?

For right now it is just going in my main rig that won't be used for probably anything but light gaming, basic video editing, mp3 encoding, etc. I want it to be a card tho that could eventually be pulled out of my rig and dropped into another box to be used for HDTV. Unfortunately I have seen the results yet for how HDTV does on the 7300GS or the X1300 for that matter.

Did you ever choose between the 7300 and the x1300? I am looking at the same choice.

I am planning to get the gigabyte 7300GS. I haven't picked it up yet since no none stocked it until recently (newegg just added it a couple of weeks ago). It is silent and has component output. Before that, the only 7300GS's all had fans. I think benchmarks show that then x1300 is faster, but I became such an nvidia fan and I have heard such bad things about ATI's buggy drivers, that I think for 70 bucks plus shipping, puts the 7300GS by gigabyte the way to go. Just my .02 worth!

That looks like a great card -- unfortunately, it does not look like it will fit in a low profile slot.

Let us know how it works out. On paper it does not have the bandwidth for VMR9 1080i HDTV though.

It probably won't be able to handle VMR9 at 1080i, but since it is going just into my main rig at my house that is only used for a minimal amount of gaming, and other non-video intensive tasks, I figure it will work just fine. I will probably give it a try to see how it works with my most resent t.v purchase (30" Toshiba CRT HDTV) just for kicks and giggles. Oh well. I will probably order when I get back home from my business trip.

ATI drivers are fine, but I suggest using the Omega Drivers instead of the official ATI release.
