Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module

I have spent 10 days with SageTV OEM Linux and after trying a nVidia 5200, an ATI Radeon 9600XT and an ATI Radeon X1300 I am still at the ‘#’ prompt.

The following is the error message with the nVidia:

I found and followed the following step by step instructions through step 6:

How to get a server up and running

Hi all,
I've been through this forum for the past week looking for ways to get my linux rig up and running. After I got it running I thought I'd put up a consolidated guide. So here is how I got my server running:
1. Start with the default install
2. after the second reboot when SageTV configuration is supposed to start you get a 'cannot start display""' error
3. That's OK, hit CTRL-C to get a bash prompt
4. At the prompt type 'emerge --sync'
5. When that's done type 'emerge gentoo-sources'
6. then 'emerge kde'
7. then copy laurenglenn's 3 start up files (Thanks laurenglenn!!!!) into your ~ directory
8. these files can be d/l'ed from http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...2&d=1137468691
9. then edit your .bash_profile file by typing 'nano .bash_profile'
10. then edit that flie the way laurenglenn did, here's the info: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...0&postcount=16
11. then reboot the computer by tying 'reboot'
12. after Gentoo loads you get a choice to go into SageTV or KDE. Go into SageTV and finish the configuration of capture sources, TV listings, etc
13. and now your done!

The error message with ATI 9600XT after emerge ati-settings:

>>> md5 src_uri ;-) kdegraphics-3.4.3.tar.bz2
* This package requires app-text/poppler-bindings compiled with Qt support.
* Please reemerge app-text/poppler-bindings with USE=”qt”.

!!! ERROR: kde-base/dkegraphics-3.4.3-r3 failed.
!!! Function pkg_setup, Line 44, Exitcode 0
!!! Please reemerge app-text/poppler-bindings with USE=”qt”.
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

I have gotten this far with the help of a long distance friend who uses another distro of Linux and has told me he can not help me with this error.

Which of the Video cards shoud I use for a Mode 2 install?
Shoud I use the onboard audio (nForce2) or the Sound Blaster Live card?
What is my next step?

Started from beginning.

I have rebooted LiveCD and did the following steps:
repartition, format, load SageTV, Linux boot, reboot, completed through step 5 of 'How to get a server up and running'.
Waiting for step 6 to complete.

Will get back after 'emerge kde' finishes and I reboot.

Try the following:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/nvidia-guide.xml

You can ignore most of it, (such as the kernel, X configuration, etc)

from the page, I would recommend doing the following:

(at the shell)

emerge nvidia-glx
emerge nvidia-kernel
modules-update
modprobe nvidia
opengl-update nvidia

As with anything, YMMV.
